Replacing my iso booth door. Suggestions?

When I built my studio a couple years ago I was a novice at planning things and basically had the contractor construct everything in a way as if he were building a normal room... Yes, I know hard lesson learned. Anyhow, when he built the iso booth which is 6' x 6', he installed a 30" hollowcore wood door. Whenever there is a vocalist or guitar cab in the booth the sound travels directly through that door pretty easily. It's almost as if people in the control room need to be very quiet when we're tracking vocals with a sensitive tube mic which is annoying. I'm attaching pictures of my situation in hopes of getting some suggestions of what I can do. Should I go solidcore? Foam filled metal? I tried looking at some other FAQ's about doors but it didn't apply much to this situation. Thanks in advance! http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/3861/2062470ww.th.jpg http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/6940/2062489zs.th.jpg http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/1584/2062463ue.th.jpg
Aloha riff, Andy Wheeler over at WiseMinds/Dragon Note Studios did a Knightfly mdf/hollowcore/mdf sandwich and it sounds like he's getting great results. http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... c&start=15 (starting at the bottom of page and next two or three pages after) From what I understand, it weighs quite a bit so you may have to either add a couple more hinges or swap them out for some heavy duty ones. Hope this helps, Aloha 8)
Thanks for the tip! Looks as if I can still use my existing door in that case which is great. Can't tell if he has anything between the door and the MDF board though. I had an idea.... I have some leftover sheetblock from building my live room (i actually planned that one much better) and was thinking of putting a sheet of that in between the MDF and the door.... Sounds like a good idea right? Thanks again.
Aloha riff, You're welcome! You might want to PM Andy (or drop in on his thread) and get his thoughts about it. He seems to be a great guy and really helpful. Also, any chance you could please:
Edit your profile to include your location. This is very important, because this is a worldwide resource, and as such, material costs and availability vary widely. For example, masonry is cheaper than gypsum in some parts of the globe, whereas it's the exact opposite in other regions.
You'll probably get more of a response by doing so and this will really come in handy two or three posts down the road. It's also part of the forum guidelines: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231 Thanks! Looking forward to your build! Aloha 8)
