Hi to all members, i just came across this great site. This is my deal, i am converting my garage into a music studio. My dimensions are 17'X23'. I am trying to get design ideas for this project. If you might be able to help, please do so. I am in the electronic music scene, and I am looking to have a vocal booth and control room. Thanks!
Aloha and welcome to the forum J Rock, Congrats on your studio build :D Here's a good place to start getting ideas: http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html Click on acoustics, absorbers, construction and studio plans in the left hand corner and tabs at top of pages. Here's a couple things for you... - How tall are your ceilings? - Once you get an idea or two, post a floor plan & pics of the room. Thanks  Aloha 8)
Hi J Rock, I got your PM and it's nice to know there are other people with projects similar to mine! I'll certainly be glad to help in any way i can. I second Kendale's recommendations. Figure out what you want to do, and then post a sketch of some kind. Also, you said you had done some demoltion, maybe you can put up some pictures so we can all see what you've been up to :D Don't be shy! Dan
Demolition did go down yesterday. Starting at 7AM. Neighbors thought they would be able to sleep in. LOL  I kept putting the demolition off, I finally set time for it and got it done. Pics will be posted soon. I just need to pick up my camera. My project almost seems like a replica of yours...you'll see pics coming up
I'm excited for you Rock. :) I remember when I started constructing my studio. It seems a lifetime ago (6 years actually, and I'm still not done). I can't wait to see pictures and a floor plan. I totally get off on this stuff!
I finally got my camera back from my girlfriend; I will take pics later today. I might post them later tonight. I have my floor plan sketch on paper, and I am new to this stuff, how post up my floor plan? I don’t have a scanner…any ideas?
you might take a picture of it, use the close-up setting if the camera has one. or, some people actually draw it on the computer using "paint' or something like that. :)
Dan, thanks i will try it on there... So i get home snap some shots of my garage :) . Sheet rock is all over the floor still be the way... Anyhow, i am thinking "i finally get to post pics" :D ...I get to my bag, :x ((((((((((((((((No USB Cord!!!!!!!))))))))))))))))) :x Sorry guys gonna have to wait another day... "she better not have lost it...! "
((((((((((Finally some photos!!!!)))))))))) well keep in mind my garage is 23'X17'X9'(after studio cealing goes on). My cealing, curently, is like Dan's. I am working on the floor plan, and i will load it when finished. I hope these next pics kind of give you and ideas. You' also see that this weekend i have some "house cleaning" to do.

looking good J. looks like you have wavy stucco walls  you may not want to try beefing up these walls like i did. it was a major pain to do it in a way that avoided airgaps. you might look at doing an extra phat inner leaf instead? something to think about.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! ATTACHED IS MY FLOOR PLAN. I DO APPOLOGIZE IT IS ON A POWER POINT FORMAT. YOU WILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT....SORRY :( WELL LAST WEEK I VISITED 2 HOME SUDIOS AND BOTH OWNER'S TOLD ME NOT TO HAVE PARALLEL WALLS. HOPE THAT IS RIGHT.... AT FIRST I TOLD MY SELF THAT I WAS JUST GOING TO NEED A CONTROL ROOM AND VOCAL....I AM IN THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC SCENE AND DIDNT THINK OF A BAND ROOM...LOL  WELL MY HIGHT IN THE BAND ROOM  WILL BE 8 FEET AND 9 FEET IN THE CONTROL AND VOCAL BOOTH. I DECIDED TO DO THIS SO I CAN KEEP THE GARAGE DOOR "OPENABLE." THE TRACKS OF THE GARAGE DOOR WILL GO OVER THE BAND ROOM ONCE COMPLETE. I ALSO DECIDED TO MAKE MY WALLS FROM CEMENT BLOCKS. I PLAN TO PUT A SOUND BORAD AND MAYBE SOME SHEET ROCK OVER THE BLOCKS TO KEEP "TOO MUCH" SOUND FROM GETTING INTO MY HOUSE AND MY NEIGHBORS. AND FINALLY OVER IT ALL MAYBE SOME COMERICAL CARPET FOR A NICER FINISH... I HAD MY UNCLE, A CONCRETE CONTRACTOR, COME BY TODAY AND GIVE ME HIS INPUT. ONCE I APPROVE HE'LL TAKE ON THE JOB  . NOW SINCE I HAVE CEMENT AT THE BOTTOM, HE WONT BE BREAKING ANY CEMENT. HE WILL COME IN DO HIS THING. HE STATED THAT IT WOULD BE BEST. THIS WAY IF I SELL THE HOUSE, DEMOLITION WONT BE A HUGE PAIN.... :P WELL PLEASE CHECK IT OUT AND ANY FEED BACK IS GREATLY APPRICIATED!!! THANKS

J Rock, Very creative using powerpoint to do your design. However, next time do a "save as" and use jpeg format ... then we can all see it without having powerpoint :D I'll do this one for ya though. as far as your layout, since you asked for my comments, let me just say that i don't know too much about multi-room designs. my room is a one room deal. oh yeah and don't use ALL CAPS!!!!! it's very annoying :) :) but glad to see you making progress on the design front :D dan

Here's a generic layout based on a typical two-car garage. You'll have to tweak it for your needs. :D For example, you could combine the iso and optional storage rooms and delete the drum riser.

Something like this perhaps... You could ace the sound lock and make it an iso booth.

How about this?
