Hey there...
I have finished building my own studio and i was wanting some advice on how to treat it. The control room is 16' long and at one end is 12'6 wide and at the other it is 11'6...so the walls angle in at approximately 3 degrees. So first off which end should i mix from....the narrow end or the wide end....and how should i treat it with acoustic foam, diffusers, and or bass traps....should the front of the room be fairly dead...especially behind my monitors? or live?.....my vocal booth is 4' x 6'.....should this room be fairly dead? and then the live studio room is 21'x12'...should this room be half live / half dead or mainly dead? My only concern with the rooms is the height...due to it being built in a basement and having floated the floors on a bed of sand the rooms are 7'6 or so. I also plan on using smarrt to try and get the flattest response i can from each room...especially from the mix position. If anyone has some decent professional experience I would greatly appreciate the advice. Thank You
How to sonically treat my studio rooms???

Aloha and welcome to the forum! :D
Congrats on your studio build!
I would suggest mixing from the narrow end, maybe start with your mix position about 38% from the front wall. This would put you just past a null around the 6' mark, and then fine tuning the position with your monitor placement and acoustic treatments. So first off which end should i mix from....the narrow end or the wide end
If you're handy at DIY projects, heres' a good link with plans for corner traps, side and rear absorbers, as well as where to put them. While they look cool, I think the room is too short for using diffusors. http://www.johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm Also:good link for info on acoustics and treatments (click on left hand column and tabs at top of pages) http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.htmlhow should i treat it with acoustic foam, diffusers, and or bass traps
Are you soffit mounting or using stands?should the front of the room be fairly dead...especially behind my monitors? or live?
I think most here would agree with a "dead approach" for that size booth.my vocal booth is 4' x 6'.....should this room be fairly dead?
Not having used this program, I'll leave this to the "professionals." Hope this helps. BTW, if I may ask, it that Kelowna, BC?
