8) Hello everybody, how are you friends musicians? Excuse my I don't speak english fluent, especially technical words...and english words! I'm here because your forum is well considered in france, thanks to read my post to help me find good solutions. I'm 30 years old, live in a pretty old french home, so walls are thick and windows like paper, I play keyboard( classic style, vangelis, electro...) since years, and years, and decide few month ago to place my home studio ( based at this moment on a korg triton st 88, a good computer and a mackie 1604 before upgrade to maybe a tascam D3200 ) on my " mezzanine" I'm not sure the word is correct, it's an open half floor under roof... the sound is certainly not as it should be...and after have destroyed my ears during years with bad big speakers , I don't want to continue no more in bad conditions, so that's why I decided to do something : Important thing is to know my need, the studio will record primarily midi, vst...a simple home studio so I'm not certain to need to build double floating cells in addition to the small size of my free space. The priority is for the control room but I want a little record room area all the same, not necessary close if you think it can be,for a singer or a guitarist occasionaly, etc... _First solution: stay on the "mezzanine" with insulation etc...but I think it's a little bit hard (for me)to do something correct in this area, don't you? I put a picture. _Second solution wich one I think is the good : I move my bedroom on the mezzanine, and the studio in the bedroom zone. The back room could became the record room ( oui? non ?) and the room ...the control room but I don't know the best direction, place for the monitors( genelec 8040A) and all the rest like bass traps absorbers, diffusers; and how will sound react if I don't close the opening beetween room and back room...so it's at this moment you intervene ! Iformations -mesures in meters have been change to imperial, in feet ( is it ok? ) -neighborhood is my sister...her husband and her baby! so I think the rear wall of the back room should be insulate. - big walls are duty (stones)and paint, thin walls are hollow brick. -for the moment the ground in the room is tiling ( project to put fitted carpet ) - wall cupboard in the room can be destroy ( if necessary) -electric heater in the room can be move ( if necessary) -actual room door can be move next to back room ( near wc )...if necessary. -ceiling height on the back room is higher than in room because goes to the roof, should I close it ? certainly it will be less expensive than insulate complete wall going to the roof and to the right part of the top back room. -I eat frogs sometimes -budget is not fix, not a clue, but something up to 1000 euros .( more, less if necessary...) my problem is more than I'm bad in construction ! I hope you've understoud , and will help me to create a modest pleasant home studio by using my room and back room. If you need more infos please ask me I have a lot of plans, pictures, and a lot of uncorrect english words ! C.M. :D

:? did I do or write something wrong ? If someone could help me it would be nice, I'd like to start building basstrap for corner and walls, and maybe the plug in for the window.
Aloha and welsome to the forum, Toxine :D
First solution: stay on the "mezzanine" with insulation etc...but I think it's a little bit hard (for me)to do something correct in this area, don't you? I put a picture.
I agree, this would be difficult.
If I were in your place I would choose this option, and would place the control room in the 11.696 x 10.214 room, with the monitors on the wall next to the back room for recording your guitar player. (If possible, I would also remove the wall cupboard.) Attached is where I would place the bass traps, side and rear absorbers. I think the room is too short for diffusors. Here's a link for the wall unit diagrams: http://www.johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm Hope this helps, Aloha 8)

Hi kendale, thanks to reply, how is the weather in hawaie...are you cold to have buy so much insulate ? Yes I think it's better to destroy the wall cupboard to have more place. Ok so if I place the monitors as you say ( my first idea ). -But if I do the same thing shows in the draw ( sidewalls, rear wall, four corners ) can I respect the size shows in the john sayers " wall Units " part in my specific size room? -If I Let the hollow open, with a bass trap on the front wall ( the wall of the back room) will it be ok? I could close it later in the future. I put a picture... Toi qui arrives à lire ça, tu as quelques notion de français...

Aloha Toxine, Nice drawing! Are you intending to have that large an opening as shown or were you planning either a window or sliding glass doors? If left open, there would be zero isolation between your control room and recording room. :?: Aloha 8)
 yes if the large opening stay open the isolation is zero, but as my music is 90% midi music, for the moment it's not my priority but I will close it with a door and a little glass, because if only a glass I can't enter in the control room no more! Or a sliding glass door why not if you think it's enought, but as the sliding glass door will become the front wall, won't it be an acoustic problem? what do you think about my few last questions about corner trap, slide wall etc...can I respect the size shows in the "wall units "part ? won't it be a little too much or...no problem. So, if you take account of the size of my control room ( called room ) and if I do everything show like the draw ( with john sayers sizes ) with a sliding glass door it will be correct :?: ps: -the Korg triton studio is maybe not at a real size, but the dark square on the table is at the same size than a Tascam DM3200.
you are heading in the right direction - I'd put double sliding doors inbetween the two rooms - your treatment for the control room looks fine. nice 3D :0 cheers john
thanks for your replys, for the 3D and the rest I use a little software from MICROAPP.COM that I've bought only to post here ! Prices are from 14 euros ( mine 24 euros ) to 75 euros for architecture softwares,, they are very simple to use, but I think it's only available in french ! You just have to learn french during yeras and years :?
