Ok, I have no idea about this stuff, so I'll leave it to the people who do. I'm wondering how big is big enough for a control room. As in, I've seen control room that are 20'x20', and then I've seen other ones that are 13'x13'. I'm trying to find out how big rooms should really be for me to design my studio. How big should a drum room be, nothing gigantic, but big enough, yanno? The size of my bedroom seems to be big enough, it's like 12'x13', is that big enough? Or should it be larger? What about a live room? Big enough for a drum set, two guitarists and a bassist standing in, to all perform together. How big should it be? Garage size, like 16'x16'? Is that enough space, or should it be a little bigger, say 18'x18' or more? How about a vocal iso booth? 5'x5'? And also a room for a guitar cabinet...how big should that be?
I'm wanting to have a big live room so that I can have a drummer with his drumset in there, and two guitarists with their guitars in there, and a bassist with his bass guitar in there (all standing in the room), and have the guitar amplifiers in other rooms (iso booths, or whatever), and have the bass guitar going DI in the control room. I'm thinking something like 16'x16' would be large enough for that, my band practices in a smaller garage than that and we have enough space...or 18'x18'. Should that cover it? And then for the control room I'm wanting to have enough space for a desk, me, room between the desk and the wall for monitors on stands, and in the back room for a couch and a coffee table for clients to sit on. Something like, 16'x16' or so, is that too big? I want an iso booth for a vocalist, or if somebody wanted to sit down with an acoustic guitar, but I have no idea how big that should be. And then one room divided into two iso booths for guitar amplifiers. What size should the rooms be?
Dimensions...

question do you have a space that you are going to convert or are you building from ground up? if you have space your going to convert we need all dimensions of the space including placement of doors, windows, plumbing, duct work, ceiling height, wall thickness and what materials the walls are made out of
No no, this is if it's from the ground up. Any suggestions on how big those rooms should be?
What size? In my experience, good sounding control rooms can be built as small as 1500 ft^3 but the listening area is very small! Work it uop from that. For what it is worth, the industry standard recommendation is 3500 ft^3.

Forgive me, I'm a newbie at this, but...how do you get square footage, multiply the length and width of the room, correct?
That is how you get square footage. My post dealt with CUBIC feet. Multiply the area (sqaure feet) by the height (also in feet).Forgive me, I'm a newbie at this, but...how do you get square footage, multiply the length and width of the room, correct?
heres a layout of a facility sized Studio i drew when i first became a member of the forum. maybe this will help you
