Hello, My name is Chris. I have been reading information on this forum for a few months and it is both informative and confusing. I finally have enough information to ask for assistance from you all. I have the chance to move my studio/production room from my house to a 2nd floor building. In order to keep from disturbing the existing tenants, I would like to build a room within a room. I have listed the approximate dimensions of the existing space in the attached sketch (this is my first time using this software so plese bare wth me). My goals are... 1. Hip-Hop bass isolation 2. Mix translation 3. DIY (~$2000) My current plan... - Build a single leaf two layer (1" total) room, with a 6" (including 2x4) airgap to walls. - Have seperate vocal booth and control room. - Leave enough open space for a small office (10x10). My question(s)... 1. Will my single-leaf thought work? 2. Can you help me layout an efficient control room and booth to make the best use of the space? Other info on existing space... - 95" high false ceiling - Brick walls are two-three layer solid red brick & mortar. - Window on brick wall is 30" from floor and 5'(h)x3'4"(w) - Door is 3'x6'6"x1 3/8" thick - Window on hallway is 3'11" from floor & 2'11" x 4' 3/4" - Hallway wall is 4.5" thick. - Office wall is 1/2" drywall on both sides fo 2x4 with no insulation. - The buiding use to be a car dealersip and the cars were driven onto the second floor show room. I was told that the weight of the room should be no problem. The floors how have carpet on them. Thanks in advance for everyones input.

Would increasing the budget allow for some comments/feedback? :? :o
Blu - what's above the false ceiling? I assume it's a drop ceiling - what is the height above the false ceiling, i.e. the actual ceiling height?? cheers john

When I was looking above the drop ceiling to understand if some lights could be rotated, the drop ceiling appeared to be a minimum 4-5' from the actual roof of the building. There were AC ducts, lighting wiring, and associated phone/alarm wiring. There did look to be room to move any of these as it was not a tigh...fit like my home attic. Thanks John.
Blu - you are going to have to remove that false ceiling and build your walls up to the actual ceiling to get proper isolation. here's a possible layout cheers john

Thanks John. Can you explain/describe a little more on why the need to go to the top of the actual ceiling? Wouldn't a drywall ceiling built on the "inner room" provide proper isolation? Please note that my intention was not to use the drop ceiling as my studio ceiling. Thanks again. Chris
well you gain the 4 -5 ' of room volume which always helps - you can always drop another false ceiling in you new rooms to hide the ducts etc. cheers john
Gotcha! Thanks for taking the time to assist. Chris
