This is my first time to ever post ANYTHING on a board so please forgive any stupid mistakes, I have done the required reading and I think I am playing by the rules. That said,
I am in the early stages of desiging a house and i have just gotten the first pass back from my architect. I am looking to build a space that i can record drums (i play) and not bother my neighbors, I would also like to be able to turn out good (read excellent) sounding tracks. I plan on building double stud walls and building on a slab so I think I can get a pretty high degree of noise reduction but i am a hard hitter (110-115 db, c weighting, up close at least).
Right now what I have planned is two rooms, the controll room is roughly 10' by 12' and, the studio is 14' 8" by 12' both rooms will have 10' ceilings (that is floor to truss, I assume that I will need to lower the ceiling a to enable sound transmission and acoustic treatment.
I know you ask for an estimate of how much I am willing to spend but I'm not shure how to address that because i dont even have a room shell to work in. I can tell you that i am planning on construction costs being around $100/square foot, total square footage alotted for the studio right now is about 300.
Right now my questions are pretty basic;
What do you think is the best layout within this footprint? I have seen other designs here where it has been suggested that the larger room be used as the control room but I want to make shure I have plenty of room for my kit.
Can I have a rectangular controll room like in the picture and use acoustic treatments to get a descent image and an honest idea of what i am doing? I would like to avoid angeling the walls if possible in order to conserve space.
Please note that if need be, I can push the outer walls of the space a bit here and there if there within reason.
The pen lines on the pic I am providing represent my first revision with the architect.
I greatly appreciate any input that you can provide.
Suggestions For A studio Space

Can you give us the floor plan without the drawings you did for your architect.
Yes but it will take a couple of days for him to work through the changes, Also, I have asked him to make the controll room bigger it will be approx 14' by 11'. I will post the changes as soon as they are available.
Here you go. Again, thanks in advance for any input you guys can give me.
I think this is the final external demensions of my studio space. I would very much appreciate any help that you guys can offer me in terms of layout, internal walls any acoustic treatment, you know the minor points of studio design. :) Also, I managed to get a sharper image from my architect so i think this image will be more easy to read.
Also, I do not know how to go back and edit previous messages so that i dont have to bother everyone with a new one.
Anyhow, building this is the fullfullment of a life long dream (for me and my neighbors) just want to do it the best way possible.
Thanks,
