Hi everyone, I have lurked around here for awhile but this is my first post. This forum has been such a great resource. I learned so much from this forum and used so much of the info here in designing and building my first studio. Thanks to John and everyone here for this remarkable forum. I am now relocating my studio into a new building adjacent to my house. The studio is in a 4000sqft cinderblock building with 17' ceilings. I have begun construction on the main studio with an architect but I have now decided to build a smaller B room at the other end of the building. I would like to build a second story where a loft would be above studio B. I basically have a 40'X20' (with 10' ceilings) open area where I would like to build a control room live room and possibly a small booth as well as stairs which would go up to the loft above the studio. I am trying to get ideas on how to design it. If I set up equal space for the both the control room/studio They both would be appx 20x20x10 which might not be ideal dimensions. I would like to keep the live room on the side with the glass block window and try to utilize it for some natural light. (Luckily I am in a rural neigborhood with virtually no nieghbors by the studio so I dont have to deal with outside loudness issues) I would like to keep the stairs above the control room on the other side. I was lloking at some of the posted SAE plans and I was intrigued by one of the designs with the set of sliding glass doors between the control room and studio. I thought it might be a efficient use of space in my situation. Anyways, If anyone has any thoughts or ideas I would be very grateful to hear them. I attached a .skp fule of the blank space I have available. Right now I have a blank slate so I am open to hear any ideas.
I am deciding between two basic layouts. One with a sliding glass door between the live/control rooms, and the other with a window and door. Unfortunately due to the construction of the top floor there must be a beam and wall which divides the room and is parallel to the existing walls. This where the the window/sliding glass door would go. I put up some basic diagrams so you can see my general ideas. They were quick ideas and might not be very acoustically accurate. I would like some advice on what you think might be the better route. I would like to go with the sliding glass door method but it might be much harder to get an accurate control room that way. Let me know what you thank. Thanks!

welcome to the forum. but i noticed when you were showing us the layouts youve thought about, the entry door into the building change position on the wall. to make it easier for us to help you we need to know where exactly that door sits on the wall as well as door size to help you and be as acurate as possible oh and any other things (like hvac ducting if its there , where water pipes and clean outs for them are located ect.ect.) .
