Hi all. Just a quick question. In a lot of pics ive seen here, there is fluffy pink insulation in the cavities between double walls. Does that mean that the construction of my walls should be like fig 1, or fig 2? Thanks in advance. oZ

sorry, should have put this inthe construction section! D'oh
Ozzy - fig 1 is correct but it requires twice the amount of rockwool. I suggest you halve each side by adding rockwool to every second stud space which then use the same amount as in fig 2. Leave the pink stuff out;) cheers john
Hi John. Not sure i understand your answer. I was going to completely stuff all the gaps between studs and noggins on both of my walls. I dont think my paint diagrams show this too well! Are you saying not only stuff the wall with rockwool, but the 20cm cavity aswell? No need for any pink fluffy stuff then? :? oZ
No I'm saying you only have to have the rockwool between the studs - no pick stuff. I'm suggesting to cut your cost only put the rockwall in every second stud space on each wall. cheers john

...although you might want to double-check with your fire safety officer, Ozzy, as there may be an issue with the lack of conventional fireblocking... ...My building department is requiring me to fill the cavity completely with insulation. Plus, I'm going to be using Roxul Acoustical Fire Batt (AFB) - ≥2" (2.5 pcf) or Thermafiber Sound Attenuation Fire Blankets (SAFB) - Nominal Density (2.5 pcf) -- both products are very similar and are awesome at retarding fire spread. 8)
John Is there little return on filling each cavity, or is it worth it to fill each cavity if you can? I plan on using Owens Corning 703. I noticed these walls are parallel. I was under the impression there should be a 12 degree difference. I believe that is what Bryan Giles told me in my design thread. Thanks. Joe
Fill it all if you can for sure, it's a cost factor eh? - Sharward's probably right about fire codes etc. cheers john
Ahh with you now john! Thanks for all the advice. oZ
