Hello fellows, how are you all doing? My name is Anderson and this is my very first post at the forum. I´m about to fix my office into a 5.1 mixing room. Is this possible? The room is 7,7 x 2,8 (meters) and has a big concrete pilaster in it. It´s has also a very big window and a lot of traffic noise comes from outside. Other thing is: i don´t own the place and might have to leave soon. So i would have to use all the stuff in the new place. Thanks.

Very nice drawings; first thing we need you to do is to edit your profile to include a location (not your address, just the general area of the world) - Second, this may not be possible at all; If you follow the guidelines as we ask here http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4063 you will see that we would need a LOT more information before being able to help very much. IF you can follow ALL the bold parts of that link, we'll know enough to get started... Steve
Ok. here i go: Im in Brazil and stuff are very expensive overhere. I have a very short budget. I master DVD´s into DLT tape, edit movies, TV and want to mix in 5.1. My space is very limited and is rented, so i can´t build walls or something like that. A LOT of traffic noise comes from outside. Mostly, i will be mixing with one more person by my side. Questions: 1) Do i have enough room for 5.1 imaging? 2) how to block outside noise? 3)Can i leave the ceiling as it is? 4) are my projects right below any good? Thanks .

Anderson - this is a true 5:1 surround speaker layout in your room. Because of the access requirements at each end of the room you are limited to going sideways IMO. check this out. cheers john

Uow !!! That will work !!! Thanks Jonh, can i have the measurements ? What´s is on the red walls?
can i have the measurements ?
just import it into that neat 3D program you have and scale it :) The red walls. well around the pillar I would have a 3 x 2 stud wall (as all walls) with 703 in between the studs and covered with cloth. The wall for the booth would be double layer drywall both sides. The wall around the speakers would be soffit mount up to the height of the bottom of your Display monitor (if using widescreen) or up to the ceiling if using triple smaller screens like in your drawing. The amp room wall is single drywall and the little angled wall on the right is a slot resonator. I'd make the little corner unit in the bottom left next to the door and the other angled wall by the bathroom entrance a slot also. The rear walls are heavy 703 with cloth cover. I'd also add a single 703 layer behind the couch and maybe lean the wall foward from above the couch to the ceiling so it's about a foot out from the wall at the top. cheers john
Okay, but about the rear wall, i would loose precious space for my projector. Can i use some kind of diffuser instead?
No you are to close for a diffusor to be effective. You want dead behind you. cheers john
Last questions John: What about the ceiling? Does a sliding door work well blocking sound from my monitors into thr mic? BTW, I guess it´ll look like this: Cheers.

I'd hang a cloud over the work area. - if you use thick glass (1/2") and have proper door seals you should get 33 db isolation which is enough for VO work. what program is that you are using?? very cool. cheers john
hmm a cloud. I think i´m about to start it now. Thanks John. BTW, i use 3d MAX. Very nice software. I´ll be posting pictures of the progress here ok?
Hey everyone, I think i have to change the project a little bit. I got a better office room in the same building and have already moved in there. The new room have no pilar and it´s a little larger. Any toughts ??? remembering that it´s suposed to be a 5.1 mix enviroment. Cheers, Anderson.
