I am planning to convert my bedroom into a control room of sorts, primarily used for mixing progressive rock and rock tracks, occcasionally acoustic music as well as metal-orientated music. I will be recording at another location (i am not sure as to whether this room is suitable for recording drums, guitar cabinets, and vocals, would acoustic treatment help this?). By the way, I am relatively new to this, so any suggestion will be appreciated. Here is a diagram of this room:

The ceiling is flat, and 2.5m (8.2ft) high, with a ceiling fan. The floor is carpet, and the walls and floor are thick, solid concrete. I have no concerns about noise levels, due to a large distance to the next neighbor, and the very thick walls. I would appreciate suggestions as to if this room is suited to use for mixing, and also suggestions as where to place bass traps etc. (a general idea) and also monitor placement. I am currently considering fibreglass for bass traps. I am probably in the $200USD range (im from Australia), but am open to more expensive suggestions if they offer a significant improvement over budget options. Also, probably for another thread, but would you recommend Event ASP8's or Mackie HR824's as more suitable this room; i've listened to both and cant decide which one is better, theyre both great, just different.. saying that, i like the pronounced high end of the Mackies, ive heard a lot of good things about the Events as well, but the bass response may be too overwhelming in the space.. Essentialy, 1) is the room suited to this use, and how could i maximise the effectiveness of the room? 2) where would be the ideal locations (a general idea), of where to put bass traps and/or diffusion panels? 3) what are the ideal acoustic treatments? 4) where should i place the monitors, and how should the setup be orientated? Any suggestions about the room or gear will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, James
Welcome to the forum, James! 8) Be sure to follow all of the guidelines in the "DON'T EVEN think ABOUT POSTING before you READ THIS..." announcement, including the bit about updating your profile to include your location. True, your post does say you're in Australia, but that will be quickly forgotten once your thread grows. I'm not an expert in the subjects you're asking about, so I'll leave that to the more qualified members/moderators for comment. Finally, I'll just say that I approve of the plan to mix prog rock, as this recent photo of my car will surely attest! (Sorry, I couldn't resist! I see "prog" mentioned so rarely that when I see it, I have to express!) --Keith
