Good Day All! New to the forum today. Have been thinking about creating a recording studio in my basement for some time now, but am really not sure where to begin. I know that I'd like to have the Control Room separate from the Acoustic Room (Live Sound or Studio Booth? Not sure), to ensure that all audio is 'electrically clean.' Here is what I am aiming to do:
    1) Recording of singing to pre-produced music 2) Recording of commercials and/or voice-overs 3) Recording of instrument music (guitar)
I have plenty of time, and I have a desire to "do this correctly" so I welcome all input and advice. :?: [/list]
First step is to decide what space you want to use, measure it (HxWxL) and post a pic of the area laying out posts, etc.... Then peruse and find plans that might work for your space. (There are so many plans on the site/in the threads), or design your intial vision for all to see.

giles117, Thanks for the response! So far I am finding this forum to be quite a useful tool! Is there any site on the web that gives recommendations on minimum space requirements for the Recording Room size and the Control Room size? My basement is plenty big enough to handle just about anything (20'w x 38' 6" l x 8' 6" h), but I would rather design and build a studio that affords me the opportunity to do what I want without wasting space or being so overly large that it difuses the acoustics (note: I spent 10 years as a Submarine Sonar Tech, so I have 'reasonable' knowledge base for acoustics, though I can always learn more!!). Also, is it possible to build a studio that can record in THX or DTS (5.1, 6.1 or 7.1)? What would be necessary to record to support both CDA and SA-CD (DVD audio)?? Thanks!!! :D 8)

kendale, Thanks for the information. Lots to read now. :) I lived on the islands from '88 - '93 ('88 - '92 in the Navy, and '93 as a civilian). Miss the ocean, my Hawaiian Ohana.
