Hello Everybody, first, Thanks for this meeting of brain-works about studio design & construction on this wonderful site. I'm new newbie here and I'm full of admiration in front of others projects on forum. Please, I ask you to be lenient to me because of my worth english. I do usually speak french in my alldays, so it's not simple for me, sorry. I decided to post here finally. I'm working on a studio design in the south of France. This one will take place in/on a very old foundation. It's an ancient castle (XIII) with very large stoned walls. There are some difficulties in the original structure of the building. For example, a pillar is holding there in the middle. (there's others floors above). This studio will serve to records different kind of music /kind of formations. We search also a good acoustic for mixing. and It will also be a place for creation and composing. So we're searching the best design for the versatility and adaptability of the place. A Control Room as bigger as we can find. A Recording room as bigger as we can find. It must be 1,2 or 3 recording rooms, I think , the best will 1 recording R. + a vocal booth. Also, there is still infrastructure that we want to keep in their place like the kitchen and the toilets. We've inspected many different configurations. and This one (below) seems to be correct : ( But maybe the space is note wider as it would be)

Thank you to take a look. Trying new plans...very thankful thank Stéphane Dufour
I think you may end up with three tiny rooms - your drum kit is not scale - it's a lot larger when in scale. how about this?? Sketchup file here cheers john

:D Yes, It's good idea. thanks for your attention. but balcony have no external access so the rooms must communicate between themself (with doors). Also, we've trying to have a different access to the control room without passing thrue the biggest recording room. Here is an alternative that I've thought :

I think John's design of the control room has a sliding glass door in it, so you can get to the control room via the booth next to it.
I've now a new configuration.

I thought the walls in red could be replace by heavy curtains in order to permit a very enlarge space sometimes. What you think about that?
Interesting plan. However, I have seen John and others point out the disadvantages of having to go through the control room in order to access the live room. That's a common dilemma when dealing with small spaces.

Hey Keith, That is not a major issue. The worse issue is going through the LIVE room to get to the control room. :) We can tolerate someone entering the control room :)
Ahhh, I ,new there was some general best practice along those lines! That makes perfect sense.
