Just discovered this site!!! :D I work as an Animator and also i do some Audio Post for a studio in town, but my real passion is recording music. I have a 1960's house with an old block basement, with an addition on the end that has a slightly higher ceiling, due to it being sunking down a little. Control Room Height 2.16m Live Room Height 2.44m I am into recording rock bands and would love to create a space to get a good drum sound (at least as good as you can get for such a small space). The back end of the control room has a framed wall that seperates it from the garage and could be removed easily. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Phill

Hi phill - I assume the studio doesn't open directly to the adjacent room - is there a door there or what?? does it matter which room is used for control room? cheers john
Thank you for your reply :D I must admit my illustration was lacking in detail so i took some photos to to give you a better idea of whats going on. I have no preference to the where the control room might go. I think the door you are talking about has been nailed shut, the previous owners were puting in a bedroom behind. It use to be the back door of the house. There is also plumbing for a toilet and shower in the top right hand corner of the live room plan. The A and B represent where i took the photos from. Cheers Phill

I took your idea and built it with sketch up, i added a toilet also. Am i heading in the right direction? or will this make the room too small? I was also wondering what kind of treatment would i need for the live room. I am mostly concerned with the height and how i should best combat that. Cheers Phill

That's the right direction Phill ;) Are you looking at dividing the live room up with say an amp room or vox booth?? cheers john
I hadn't really thought of having a vox booth and and amp room but i think that would be a great idea. Cheers Phill
Looks like it will turn out quite nice. But yes, do yourself a favor and build a vox booth. Condenser in any live room wont compare to a silent track. Fill
So something like this?

Just wondering, why cant you use that other open space? It doesnt seem like its serving any purpose besides storign stuff. If you could do that you can exspand to multiple live rooms, bigger iso and all that jazz. Fill
