Moved to Studio Design.
Looks like the project “7trax” has taken on a life of its own, it has gone beyond the back yard studio setup to a real location. I am still waiting on the non-profit paper work and on the last board member, but hopefully we can get started on fund raising, grants and of course the build soon.
I have put together a plan, a much larger studio just over 1800 sqr ft. two iso rooms, a main room, a machine room, a mic room, and of course a control room. See attached.
Shooting for a build budget of about 250 k to 300 k.( lots of late nights) The plan does not include a lounge or a office area yet, because I do not have a location yet( no docs no funds) but will likely be in Sharwards neck of the woods. Looking at concrete warehouse space that is going up in that area. Not the best but cheap total area for the studio, lounge and office around 2500 sqrft.
Enough blabbing here is the layout. :D
p.s. sorry if the pic is to big it is a big room.
I know I should have tagged this on to my old post but the room is so different that I thought I would start anew.
The new plan

Some pics of the new design in sketchup. :D
personal question: where the hell do you do fund raising? I dont wanna have adresses or something.. just in principal.. several people told me they made fundraising.. do you need a buisnessplan and then asking companies? cheers Georgewe can get started on fund raising, grants
DO something with that "virtually square" Live Room
I've been curious about that too... I think he's planning to do some kind of community-based co-op educational keep kids off drugs and off the streets kind of dealio. Vair? What's the deal?where the hell do you do fund raising? I dont wanna have adresses or something.. just in principal.. several people told me they made fundraising..
I was thinking of the same thing giles117. How about this?
Lets take it NSEW, with N/S being the wall running parallele to the control room main window.
In your redo you still have flat surfaces paralle to one another. That is a No, No.
Very Basicall, I'd doa V-angle on your east and North Walls which will break up those parallell surfaces.
I'd angle out the side walls of your iso rooms a few degrees as well. Currrently in your ISO rooms, you have paralle surfaces as well. Looks pretty will sound shoddy.
Right.
You can achieve symmetry without parallels.
Something like this or would one big "V" on each wall work better or make more sense?
Which iso room are you referring to iso 1 or iso2/amp room?
I was speaking of Both ISO rooms. and yes what you added is what I was talking about to break up those parallel walls.
So Adjust those walls to your iso rooms and life will be grand.
This is what Bryan is refering to.
cheers
john
Hey Vair -- we're still eagerly awaiting the details of your cunning money tree harvesting plan! 8) Quit with the practical "make the room dimensions not suck" talk and settle our curiosities! :mrgreen:I've been curious about that too... I have made some changes to the tracking room walls and the three iso rooms. Am I getting closer? :)
I was also thinking of making one side of the tracking room very absorptive and leaving the other very reflective. Do you guys think the room is big enough to really make use “the live side and dead side” build.
Sharward your answer soon. :D
Looking real good there. And yes making one side live and the other dead will work well in your space. Even in a smaller room that concept would work (just on a smaller scale...)
My Small Live room is in the same concept adn trust me I can tell when I am tracking towards the live side versus the dead side. When I track rappers I stuff them in the dead side of the room, when I track pop singers I use the live side of the room
3rd edit. LOL
Even with Drums As I alter the positioning in the room from the live to dead side it changes the charcter of the snaer (without mikes) and the openess or deadness of the cymbals.....
Tired of hitting the edit button.
The iso rooms are still not right. You still have parrallel surfaces. You have tightened up the Big room, now get the small rooms right....
Just looked at your original design. It appears as if 1 iso room is really a storage room. If so, dont sweat that room but if you plan to record in that romm just simple take those 2 outer walls of each and angle them out some.
