what should be used for attaching gypsumboard into stud?

which are mainly used for attaching gypsumboard into stud? nail or adhesive or non-hardening caulk or plaster adhesive? p.s If i missed a FAQ info about that, plz let me know correct url . thank u in advace
Nails or screws if the studs are wood, and special screws if they are metal.

(If I'm wrong, do a search for USG manual, also part of the REFERENCE section - download it and search it for "fastener" (without the quotes) and "schedule" - that one will get you the recommended spacing between fasteners for edges and inner areas of wallboard, etc...
