Hi Everyone,
I’m in the process of designing a home studio in my music room at home (Newcastle, Australia). My aim is to set it up as a simple (preferably single) room studio for recording/mixing/mastering vocals and the occasional acoustic instrument. The walls and ceiling are already in place, but are not yet painted or treated in any way.
In terms of sound, we live on a property, so disturbing the neighbours is not a problem. The music room however, is close to the kitchen and living room which means it is close to loud appliances and TV/stereo systems which are easily heard from the music room.
The room is 4m wide 5.2m long and has a standard 8’ ceiling. The walls and ceiling are 15mm gyprock on a steel frame with no insulation. The floor is still only a slab, but it is planned to be carpeted (unless you can suggest a comparably priced solution). There is a double sliding glass door to the outside and a standard timber internal door (that opens into the room) leading out to the living room. There are also 2 ducted air-conditioning vents in the ceiling. (See diagram).

Furniture wise there will be a desk (obviously) for computer and recording equipment, a stand-alone keyboard and a sofa bed.
My budget is about A$500 with an ABSOLUTE MAX of A$1000 (Excluding flooring)
My questions are what would be the best layout for this room, and how should I treat it acoustically (including which materials if possible)?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
