I've been messing around in sketchup, i'm a fan i must say! Here is the barebones of the studio room that we currently have at the high school where i work as 'the sound guy' among other things. We turn out a massive amount of work, so theres some room for improvements in the room! Heres what the room looks like, and what it can be taken back to, note the room within a room is thin and not insulated for sound. This may get changed when they throw alot of money at it, for the moment i'd be more happy to improve my mixing environment in the smaller room. I've done alot of research on panel absorbers, slot absorbers and bass traps but now need to apply it to this room IF anyone has any suggestions, i'd love to hear them, feel free to download that image and go nuts on it! Dimensions are: 11.5 metres along the window wall 6.4metres across smaller wall 2.8m floor to ceiling
There are numerous posts,a nd I can't rmember the threads, but basically there ae three things to look at/improve. 1. REduce/stop reflections arriving withitnt he first 15 ms. Threads on "mirror trick" will help. 2. Control reverb time to around 150 ms. 3. Low end aborption, usually done in corners. Easiest material to work with are wideband absorbers from mineral wool. Keep asking and we will help you get there! Andre
thanks andre! i've been reading these forums for over a year, and studied basic acoustics so already the help has been massive. I have waiting to go up, 5 1500x2400mm semi ridged fibreglass batts which should help alot in the larger room of deadening down the low end escaping from the place and waking the neighbours a full blow re-design is on the cards in the not too distant future, but until then i want to make it as good as i can will post more pics soon
Your welcome. Keep the questions coming. And for people not used to here, we do not hand hold designs, we help with carrying udeas through. The more knowledgabke the quesitons are, the better the results will be. Andre
okay i've done a little more work, i have next to no budget to work with but i'd be interested to know if you think i'm on the right track with the design of this room in order to improve my mixing environment one downside is that the musicans are now behind me, but i often work with a producer who doesn't particularly need to see my screen, i'll sacrifice small thing for a better listeing environment i've gone with a really basic LEDE type setup, i have to try an avoid covering those back and side windows, any big downfalls with this design that people can see? the ridged fibreglass on the back wall and in the corners is optional but i've got a fair bit of the material to play with so i was considering hanging it behind that curtain to further soak up some low end, also from my reading absorbant material in the corners will help with low frequencies building up there, the curtains by their make up should absorb some tops bringing my reverb time to a reasonable level on the right track or waaaay off??
