Hello! I got a job at a cncert hall and the owner wants me to do something with the acoustics, but doesn't want to invest anything in any acoustic elements. so the only thing i have any control over is the positioning of the loudpeakers. the hall is not used only for concerts, but is intended to hold some tv shows, prom's and stuff like that, if that changes anything... (i'm kind of confused) the way the speakers are set up now is: 2x huge bass speakers on each side of the stage 2x huge midle and high range speakers hung from the celiling on each side, roughly above the bass speakers. the stage is (i don't know exactly hoe to say this in english) the shape of a half of a full circle (i couldn't make that any more complicated...) there are also two satelites i could use, but i can't find anything i could use them for... do you have any ideas? ok... to make my question more clear: what would be the best set up for this kind of situation. the measurment of the hall are roughly 30mx60m (this is based on my memory and my perception of leinght, but i could get acurate measurments, if requred) sub question: the owner wats to save as much space as possible, to make room for tables and stuff, so he want's me to hang the bass speakers. would that be an option? could i position the subs under the stage?) thank you for all your help!
you shouldnt hang the bass speakers. for one they are heavy and they lose their low end in my opinion. If you position them under the stage you may need build a box to absorb some of the sound coming from the back. I would just put them under the stage and try them first but my experience has always been that the stage turns into one giant bass cabinet and the sound is washed out low end mud. i say trial and error. let your ears be the judge. if you get the exact dimensions i am sure these gurus can be alot of assistance as well.
Hi Soulfood! If You can provide us with some kind of drawing/sketch of the place and the exact measures I'm sure we can help, though this is mainly a recording studio forum  . For example I've worked as a live sound engineer for many years(still am) and have come across these kinds of things every once in awhile. Details needed: -room size(hight, lenght, width) -speaker details(make, model, how many... etc...) -anything else you can think of that might help -Tomi-
This is site is devoted to recording stidio desing and acoustics try Install Forum or othere similar ones at ProSoundWeb. Good luck!
