Hello all,
New to this forum -- what a terrific resource! With all of the cool 2d and 3d drawings posted here, I'm a little embarassed to attach a hand drawn floorplan.
As you will see in the .pdf document, my studio is going to be relatively simple. I have no need for a control room since I am going to
be just working by myself (recording vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, keyboards and electronic drums). This is a basement setting.
My main concerns circle around getting the acoustics right. The walls will be dry wall and the ceiling will be a dropped ceiling of acoustical tiles (except over where I plan to put my mixing desk and monitors). The ceiling here is lower (because of a sunken living room above), and will likely be drywall. I am thinking of putting commercial type carpeting in throughout as well.
In addition to any suggestions you can offer, I'm curious if my plan to put the monitors/mixing desk under the lower, drywall ceiling is a sound one (no pun intended). I like the desk location because it is tucked out of the way. Also it will likely look nice to have the control area under a lower drywall ceiling, supported by two colums (the little circles on the diagram). But the last thing I want to sacrifice is aural aesthetics for visual aesthetics.
That's why I'm posting here. Hopefully you can help me make the right basic decisions.
Thanks so much!
