First of all, thanks to everyone for this incredible forum. This site has answered hundreds of questions for me in the past few weeks.
I'm submitting a quick sketch of a raw space that we're (hopefully) turning into a studio. I was hoping that I could get some tips for a studio floorplan.
About the space:
It used to be 2 retail shops. Walls are cinderblock and floors are poured concrete. Roof is corrugated steel sheeting supported by steel joists. The roof slopes slightly and I've provided height dimensions from the floor to the bottom of the joists. There's also a good deal of room for electrical and possibly HVAC between the roof joists. The buildings are free standing on their own private lot, but we're on a pretty busy road (trucks).
About the studio:
Our main goals are mixing and vocal tracking. We've got a big console (13' long 4072G+ SSL) so the control room will likely be the biggest room in the space. Most likely we'll be soffit mounting Tannoy FSM's as mains. In addition to the CR we would like to fit a live room, an iso booth or two and a machine room into the space.
As for any extras, there is additional space attached including another two story building for a lounge, reception, bathrooms, offices, etc. I'm really only concerned with the music studio at present.
About us:
The owner is a contractor with an electrical and drywall business, so we have supplies, labor and are ready and willing to do it "the right way" the first time.
Here are some sketches... I know, I'm working on getting that Sketchup software. Any suggestions?
