Hi all, (Scroll below to see current proposal). First time for me on this forum. Seems like a really good way of getting feedback on studio design and acoustics. I am in the process of designing my own production room by converting a part of my garage to a dedicated music room. I am not a professional, more like a semi-professional. However, I have the means of building myself a well-treated single-purpose room for my musical efforts and I am now in the planning phase of doing just that. Let me describe what my ambitions are with this room. 1. The number one goal of this room is to have an ergonomically and acoustically correct room for composing/arranging, programming and small-scale vocal recording. This is a pretty daunting task I guess with the space that is available. Note that ergonomics is very important, but I'll still would like to have a good-sounding room (for listening). 2. The room is without windows with parallell surfaces. Neighbours are not that close, however, a bedroom is nextdoor so if it is possible to isolate (sound-wise) the room from the rest of the house it would be really good. 3. The computers will be put in a soundproof cabinet in the room (under the mixer and the rack). By doing this and also use some movable screens, simple lead vocal recording should be possible in the room, as well as recording some acoustic guitar. 4. Only near-field monitoring will be used. Even if I could invest in bigger/better monitors, the space isn't really there to do so. 5. The budget is rather unfixed right now so any proposal not including making the room bigger is ok. 6. The current floor in the garage is concrete floor which should be sufficiently robust to use as the mass in a spring/mass setting. 7. The equipment that needs to fit is: - 3 19" TFT screens - One 19" rack of 2 ft height - One Yamaha 01v96 v2 mixer (i.e. 19" width) - One MIDI keyboard 49 keys (32” x 8-3/8” x 4”)(must be in front of the screens) - One 88 keys digital stage piano (Yamaha P-250, 4.2 ft x 1.8 ft) My proposal of how the equipment could be placed is in the drawing below. Available space is: length: 3.6 meters (11.8 ft) width: 3.4 meters (11.1 ft) height: 2.7 meters (9.2 ft) Sorry if this is a bit vauge. I am a bit curious if somebody has any suggestions based on the info above? Am a too ambitious? Am I trying to fit too much in this space? What I would really like some help with would be to make this room as good as possible when it comes to acoustics and listening quality while at the same time keeping the ergonomics in order.
