Hi, I just moved to a new place and set up some gear to do some basic editing and arranging work. However it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice that there are some acoustical dilemas in my work space. The room is about 3 by 5 meters (about 2.2 meters high)and I work with Tannoy Reveals inclusive 15'' sub. I'd like to "improve" the room acoustics a little without spending much money at all!!! I know, most of u think (or know) that this is impossible and that's why I have to make a few things clear: I won't do any professional final mixing nor mastering there. Just some arranging and editing. I don't expect the room to be perfect. All I want is to reduce some of those nasty first reflections at the listening position and if possible to reduce the standing waves a bit. The budget is 1000 Pounds. So far several sources recommended a place called: www.primacoustic.com I was told that for the money I am willing to spend that I'd be best off with a system like this: http://www.primacoustic.com/LZ14.htm plus some additional ceiling diffusers from the same manufacturer. Generally I am a big opponent of putting some foam at the wall! But in this case due to the budget it seems to be the only solution. Is it a waste of money??? Do I have other options? Does anybody have any experience with acoustic treatment like that?? PLEASE DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND: I am not trying to build a studio!!! I do not expect any miracles of it, just some improvement. The reason I post this here is because (quiet sad and surprisingly) other forum posts resultet in either ignorance to acoustic treatment or suggestions that exceed my budget by far!! If anyone knows a solution for my 1000 Pounds budget or has experience with those Primacoustic (or similar), then PLEASE HELP!! I'd appreciate it a lot. If at all necessary on a budget like this, i can make a Smart Draw drawing with speaker positions.
Ok, I did a Smart Draw Thing anyway. It is to scale but I couldN't figure out how to show the dimensions...

Thanks for the pic!! To add some more details: Ceiling height: 2.25m The lines behind the monitors represent a window that starts 50cm above the floor and goes all the way to the ceiling. It is 110cm wide. BTW: I am also not looking for any isolation. I also can't do any unremovable changes to the structure and it would be great if I could maybe remove the "acoustic treatment" without too much effort, in case if I move again... Thanks a lot!
Aloha from Hawaii, I am in a similar situation where I wanted to improve the acoustics a bit and possibly take the treatments with me when I get another room. I too have a limited budget and considered taking the "foam approach" until I did a little research and image search of "real control rooms" and found that very few have those kinds of treatments. I wondered why? Somewhere along the way I discovered the SAE Institute website and found tons of info on acoustic treatment theory and application: http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html Be sure to click on the tabs at the top of each category's page. After chatting with the good folks here on this forum, I discovered that most of the treatments can be done as a DIY project and cost less than you might think and work better than you might expect. Hope the link proves helpful to you. Aloha, kendale

Hmm. Maybe I should do some research as well... I was hoping that there was a faster and easier way. And like u said: It should stay portable.
