Hi all - have been reading FAQ's and old posts for 6 months on and off. I'm now ready to take the plunge and build a producer/composer room with an iso booth off the side. No drums or 6x12 Marshall stacks.
I am building INSIDE my double garage. I figure the extra walls with a few feet of space around will help things.
Using the golden ratio vs my 8'2 ceiling height, and the desire to retain storage space and working garage doors, I can construct a room that's inside dimensions are 11' Wide x 14' long x 8' high.
My speakers will be KRK V4 series 2 with the V12 Sub. My DAW is laptop based. I travel a bit so I would prefer not to soffit my speakers. The floor is cement. I can paint it or carpet it depending on what is needed acoustically (a last chance to help fix things?)
My first and most pressing question is should I go with the design shown here
http://www.johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm
or go with the groovey "control room" such as the one shown on the SAE pages studio plans (you know, the basic slanted wall design)
http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html
I am also happy to do the ceiling cloud to compensate for the low ceiling. I had also planned to put 703 around all the wall/ceiling corners for bass trapping with perhaps plastic and cloth covering so I don't suck all the highs out of the room.
I don't want an overly dead room.
We are having a 3rd kid (if I could just figure out what's causing that... ) so I'm losing my current room in the house.
Thanks for the great site and any answers.
