ok i want to build a new studio from ground up.
i want it to be aprox 130 sqm (give or take a few) it will be constructed from hollow concrete blocks.
I would like a live room of about 8m in length with 4m cielings,
control room large enough for a 44 channell mixing desk computers 3 racks of outboard a couch and enough room for at least 6 people
2 small booths ( amps etc) and 1 large booth for vocals and overdubs.
I would also like a small entrance kitchen area.
Any floorplans and advice would be apreciated.
Cheers Anj.

Been here yet? (The "large facility" plan might be a place to start... Steve
Thanx for the replies,
Ok to answer a few questions.
1- im in australia
2-the building will be constructed from sand filled hollow hollow concrete blocks.
3- interior walls and cielings will be mainly plasterboard, wood and part of the walls in the studio will be brick.
4- the floor will be painted concrete.
5- this will be constructed on a small block of land in a comercial zone.
6- budget as much as it takes but as little as possible,
will be using as much second hand material as possible and doing as much of the labour myself,- looking at about 80 to 100 thousand aussie dollars for complete project.
I have tried to post the design but havnt been able to do so.
let me know if there is anything elso you need to know.
cheers
I have sent john an email with the design....hope you dont mind, cos i cant work out how to get it on here .
Cheers

john
and here's my version.
everything is to scale.

john
thanks for that john....I like your design,
my 2 concerns are the size of the contol room, i have 2" tape machine and also a patch bay that conects to the console and i also need space for guitarists and keyboard players to have enough room to move when there are other people in the control room.
I also woulds not like to have a drum kit in the small area of the studio, as thats how my current set up is and i would like to have more air around drum kits ( i record lots of live drums)
this studio will mainly record live rock bands.
what do you think about using concrete blocks for the outside walls.
Cheers
ps. thanks for getting my plan on here
The control room is a similar size to your original. The 2" machine can go under one of the rear speakers and the rack gear goes in the rack directly behind the console area.i have 2" tape machine and also a patch bay that conects to the console
the keys sit on the rack bench and the guitarist has plenty of room.and i also need space for guitarists and keyboard players to have enough room to move when there are other people in the control room.
I put the drums in the main room mainly to show the kit in scale - set the drums up in the middle of that room and that's about as live as you will get in the space you have. this studio will mainly record live rock bands.I also woulds not like to have a drum kit in the small area of the studio, as thats how my current set up is and i would like to have more air around drum kits ( i record lots of live drums) this studio will mainly record live rock bands.
Besser Blocks are easy to work with and have a good STC - if you paint them both sides, or better still render them, the STC is increased. What are your sound isolation requirements? we need to know where you are going to build this relative to outside sound getting in and out. Cheers johnwhat do you think about using concrete blocks for the outside walls.
Thanks john,
this will be built in a comercial zone ( light industry) there are mechanical repairshops and small factorys etc. in the area.
So the main thing is to keep the outside noise out,
i was thinking sand filled painted besser blocks outside and then gyprock and wood inner walls (maybe some brick walls in the live room)
Do you think i can have 3 booths on the same side as the 2 booths or would they be too small.
Cheers
That's sounds Ok to me.
Here's one way of having three booths :)
cheers
john
cheers for that john.........that looks quite good.
do you think that is a good size for a vocal booth or should it be larger or smaller?
Cheers.
I think that's an OK size mate.
