I am finally after 10 years able to upgrade my studio to something new. I will be building a free standing structure next to my garage. The City has limited me to 940 sq / ft. Due to land / sewer layout need to keep the basic orientation as shown, but other than that I would love your input.
I am basically building a perimeter wall at 9 - 10 ft tall with a free span truss roof and then putting the inside rooms free standing at 8 ft. Thanks for your input!

My New Studio plan!

You may not be able to allow the large room and storage room doors to collide like that. You may have to move the live room doors down about three feet.
You might also consider moving stuff around so that you can enter the control room without having to go through the live room. Of course you wouldn't want to have to go through your live room to get the control room either. :)
You're fortunate to have a blank canvas to work with. New standalone building? I'm jealous!
I feel extremely fortunate after all these years to finally have a place of my own / quiet / Airconditioned and with a bathroom.
As far as the storage room door. I see what you mean. My thoughts were I would rather the guys have a straight shot carrying in their gear (no wall bumping) and also preserve a little nook area to set up a small table and chairs for the break room. If I moved the doors over it divides the break area up to a point it may make it worthless.
The storage room is primarily for my "Live playing Gear" such as extra drumset / push cart and PA gear. I wont be needing access to it under normal conditions.
Studio gear storage will be mostly in the back of the 2 iso rooms.
Any other thoughts, please shout. I want to make sure I have really thought it all through before commiting on building.
Oh.. and in regard to going through the other rooms... I am the drummer for the band, and I often track myself with no one around . (I do a lot of on line collaborations) so I made the best comprimise I could think of by arrainging the drum booth that way ( the one with the sliding glass doors).
Since the band uses the studio for a rehearsal hall, during practice I will leave the glass doors open so I dont have to set up a kit in the main room.
Keep 'em coming!

How about putting the door on the live room side then? The storage room is primarily for my "Live playing Gear" such as extra drumset / push cart and PA gear. I wont be needing access to it under normal conditions.
Have you seen Doni's layout, courtesy John? It's really cool -- the control room is the "hub" and all of the rooms/booths are its "spokes." If you haven't already, take a look -- maybe that will get your creative juices flowing. 8) Bonus: It is shows the history of how I became a "mere mortal.". . . That hub design is cool! (dont get me too redirected!)
You know.... I may just go ahead an put the door to storage in the main room !
I hope doing so, I would not need a double entrance door to the storage. That would be the only bad thing. As it is right now that front section has only a standard single wall construction for the walls since the double wall goes completely across isolating the front section. Although I could just run a double wall section on the 6 foot wall common to thestorage room / break room...... hmmmm
Tom
Yeah, that seems like a winner. After all, you'll probably be moving that gear to and from the main room anyway, not the "break room" -- right? ;)You know.... I may just go ahead an put the door to storage in the main room !
I almost addressed that when I posted that suggestion. I don't think you'll need to, because it's not as though the stored items will care how loud it gets in there. ;) In fact, the wall(s) and door that separates the main room from the closet can be pretty flimsy. Basically, engineer the walls for the main room as though there is no storage closet (i.e., the closet is just a part of the main room). Then, add a couple of flimsy partition walls for the storage area. :)I hope doing so, I would not need a double entrance door to the storage. That would be the only bad thing. . .
Yeah, that's the idea. In fact, we may be able to get away with just a curtain to separate the storage area from the main room. Hey, that might be pretty cool -- a 6 foot wide opening covered with a curtain so you can basically hide the stored stuff, but if we were to have an especially large group, we could move the stored stuff out and have a larger main room with the curtains drawn! :D  Oops... Sorry... I got carried away there. I almost forgot this isn't my space! ;-) --Keith :mrgreen:Although I could just run a double wall section on the 6 foot wall common to thestorage room / break room...... hmmmm
why not just have the storage door swing inward? :P

Actually...
I will be loading to and from that closet through the break room.
That closet is where I will primarily store my "Live play" stuff for when the band goes gigging. My truck parks just outside the studio door so It would be nice to not have to cart stuff through the studio to load the truck.
Having the door open inward would probably help a lot although once the closet gets full of my "stuff" it may require some dancing around in the closet to get to certain items.
Stuff to ponder.
I thought about a sliding casement type door, but I am not sure I could fit one that would allow me to wheel my 4 wheel cart through the door (it is about 30 inches when loaded) in that 6 foot wall.
Thanks
Tom
I almost suggested that, but I didn't know if the door to the main room would be allowed to swing into the zone immediately in front of the closet door, even if the closet door opens inward. I assumed the closet door was designed to swing out to maximize storage space... But, I see Tom's point about how pointless the room would be if it were stuffed so full that you couldn't even enter it. Reminds me of the closet in one of my bedrooms! Anyway... Tom, if you swing both doors away from the break room, I think it's moot. My house was built in 1999 built with two doors in a corner that swing away from each other. Leave the doors where they are, but just reverse the direction of the swings, and you're all set! :)why not just have the storage door swing inward? :P
Cool!
Thanks guys.
I am sure once I start working on the plans with the wall projections where I am drawing in ceiling angles an such I'll be screaming again.

Hi Tom
cheers
john
look at that a total 180 of what thee room looked like. John you the man :D
Oh yeah and now there are pics of the 3D rendering of the layout john helped me with. So please go check it out and tell me what you think.
8) Hub and spokes! 8) Hub and spokes! 8)
Yup Betcha John has a million and one ideas just floating in his head. Ever wonder if he ever dreams of anything else. LOL :?:
