Guys,
I have basically been talked out of a lightweight floated floor which to be honest suits me and my budget. - i have some rubber pucks going cheap if anyone wants them.
I will upgrade existing 20mm chipboard floor.
Questions are:
Do I glue and screw new layers or just nail them down.
I was thinking one more 20mm particleboard seeing I am not floating the floor anymore - I can always add more MDF in the room later once the walls are done. - comments
Do I playmatt the bottom of my new walls to help flanking into the control room through the original floor?
Thanks
JG
Upgrade to my original floor

anyone - sorry to be impatient!!
I vote for glue and screw, or at least just screw, and I vote against nailing, unless you really like squeaky floors which will undoubtedly be the result if you decide to go with nails.Do I glue and screw new layers or just nail them down.
You need to know what the resonant frequency of your floor will be before and after adding the particleboard. It's possible that on your way toward "better" you might encounter "worse," so you cannot afford to guess at this. You need to be very specific with exactly what your floor consists of right now, and what the floor would consist of if you add the new stuff, so that the experts here with the fancy calculators can tell you whether it would be better or worse. We also do not have (at least not in this thread) any other information about your project, so you'll need to either (1) post all the info, or (2) preferably, move this question to your project thread so that everything is together.I was thinking one more 20mm particleboard seeing I am not floating the floor anymore - I can always add more MDF in the room later once the walls are done. - comments
I think the conventional wisdom here is that you should not float walls. Look around and you'll probably find one or more threads where that has been discussed. Finally, remember that bumping your posts can actually delay responses, according to the "Before You Post" announcement. Plus, Steve is really tied up right now and has been having connectivity issues, so please be patient. :cool:Do I playmatt the bottom of my new walls to help flanking into the control room through the original floor?
