How small of a space can i get away with. I have a friend who went to PIT and their practice rooms were quite small but it still fit the set and you could hear everything. After recording the drums I am going to post effects, reverb and stuff so I kind of want the room dead. So I really dont need a BIG room do I? I read somewhere 10x12 is small enough but I NEED to go smaller. Is it possible? Pros, cons? Thanks in advance.
Figure out how much room you need for your drums by measuring how much space they take up by themselves. Do you have a 3 pc. kit with 2 cymbals? or maybe a 10 pc. w/ double kicks and 8 cymbals? Then factor in how much room you'd need on top of that for moving in and out from behind the kit. Use your noodle a little, it's not rocket science. :)
Ok, so i need roughly a 6x8 space. does it matter if the walls parrallel or should they still be trapezoidlike if its going to be a DEAD room (or should i say closet)? and being this small im thinking i wouldnt need much gain on the preamps cause i was thinking being that the room is small everything will overlaod the mics? i plan on miking kick, snare and two overheads. any thoughts.? thanks in advance.
