Hello-
just discovered this forum and I am lovin it.
Anyway I currently have a big room w/ a booth. I am planning a new control in a back room that is 8' high 10' wide and about 20' deep. I will be dealing with the acoustics later but I am concerned about the lack of a window. Given the space a window would not allow you to see anything.
SO-
I'm wondering about a small 3 camera closed circuit video setup. Has anyone used a setup like this instead of a window? i like the idea of planing one over the drum set so I can see when the drummer decides the floor tom mic needs to be pointed at the floor instead of the floor tom. But I don't know what the actual practicality of this would be. Any ideas??

Video instead of control room window

It is a compromise that's used by some. I personally don't like it as it's only one way - you see the studio - but I think the studio also needs to see you.

Right-
That's the one drawback- I'm always having to count people in etc, ive been practicing doing it all in the cans and it works, but not as well. I have a scale model drawn and I will try to get it posted. I trying to figure out what is/would be the lesser of the evils that are available to me. Thanks for the input though-

I'm considering this for my tracking room. Windows would have ruined the TL too much.
Why should it be only one way? Install a 2 way video system. Simple :)

multiple cameras and multiple monitors.Simple :)
Not sure if it's cheaper, but maybe you could use ethernet cameras, and a dedicated computer. Send the VGA output to all rooms. That way you just have one monitor and a few windows to look at.

Ted uses small cameras. He has a projection system and router/mixer that allows him to put all four zones up on the screen at the same time. The cameras are fixed, but remote control units can be used for pan, tilt, zoom, etc.
Ted does home theater and electronics systems as well, so he used non-pro/home oriented products. It works great.
