Hello. If I'm having my house built, what's the ideal ceiling height for a basement studio? 10ft? 12ft? 15ft? Freshoil
Vague question, especailly not even knowing what part of the world you are in. For starters, teh NARAS (grammy) P&E wing recommends 11 foot ceilings minumum for 5.1 mixing rooms. Allow 2 feet behind (above) that for aound treatment and you have 13 feet inside raw height. Andre
This isn't a simple question because every foot added to the height means many thousands of dollars in additional cost. It becomes a tradeoff of cost v height. I'd say the minimum would be 10ft. cheers john
Go for as much as you can get/afford... your builder will probably impose some hard limits on how deep your basement can go (since odds are there are utilities like water at some nominal depth just below the standard basement depth). So, this means that you have to build up, and re-grade the ground around the house. At a certain height, that becomes impractical (imagine regrading the ground around your house 5 feet higher). In my area it costs about $3-5K per foot you add....I went for 9 feet. Yeah, I wish I had more, but I didn't want my house to look like it was on a littel hill, and even at 9 feet my driveway ended up fairly steep. Cheers, Kris
