Hello Studio Design gurus, I've never posted here, but I've been lurking for about a year now. I just leased my first room! I'm 23 and this is the best I can afford right now, but I realize there is a lot wrong with it. I'm hoping you brilliant minds can help me get the most out of my little space. I don't have a very big budget, but I can get things like carpet, wood, ect for good prices, so that will help. I did a little sketch of the room in illustrator. If anyone has any pointers on what I can do to fix up the room, I am all ears. The biggest problems with my space are that there is a giant mirror on the back wall, a carpeted sliding glass door, and a carpeted glass window/wall. I'd also appreciate advice on where to put some diffusers, bass traps, or any other treatment I should consider. I am not looking for sound proof, because I know that's not in my budget, I just want a room that is accurate so my mixes translate well with the rest of the world. Thanks John. Here is an updated sketch I've done. Full size PDF and JPEG formats. Basically, I need to cover two large glass areas. I am planning on just covering it with auralex foam. I'm sure there are better alternatives, but I can get a pretty good deal on the auralex... so, would it be helpful at all? As I said previously, I know it will cost too much to sound proof, so I'm really just looking to get the room as close to accurate as possible, and to keep things as portable/reusable as possible (I don't plan to be in this space longer than a year). http://www.soupkitchenstudios.com/skstudios2.pdf Thanks again!

Your biggest problem is the large size and small amount of treatment you can do - I'd suggest what I've drawn because it cuts off the left end of the room, which will ring and distort your sounds if it's not treated, and puts you in a tight nearfield environment suitable to your speakers. You only need build 4 walls and you've got some low mid absorbers in slots - add the auralex and tame the rest of the room. Run a cable to the Gtr amp when you build the walls and you can play your amp yet listen to it on your speakers. ;) cheers john
