Hey there! I'm new here but look forward to reading the wealth of information. Love the sketches and pics.
I have been looking at houses to buy and was wondering what I should be looking for, for the best setup possible. I will only be recording screaming vocals and maybe some hand drums, as everything else will pretty much be direct input. Bass frequencies should not be a real problem anyways, as far as waking up the neighbors.
My main concerns are:
1) Where is the ideal place in the house to make a studio (basement, garage, living room), regardless of how the room is treated? Should I be looking for a house with a basement, or can I skip this part?
2) Provided this area in the house is not treated, how much will I have to sound proof it in order to be able to yell and scream at night without the neighbors hearing or calling the cops? Will I need to build a booth in order to dampen it to undetectable levels or would I be able to just treat some corner of the house and yell into it diagonal style? It will be a suburban area, so houses will probably be somewhat close in proximity.
I have been reading a lot about having different angled walls and hard floors and soft ceilings. I am not much of a carpenter at all, but I could handle hanging whatever is neccessary and the look of it doesn't bother me.
I guess the main objective would be to be able to scream and yell anytime I want to. The second objective would be to have a great place to mix it and turn out quality music.
So, if you could buy a new house to use as a studio, what would you look for and where would you put the mixing area and a screaming area?
Thanks so much,
Trabatar
