I am building a studio this summer in my garage. I am planning on a floating floor and a double wall and ceiling on the live room. I don't think the control room needs to be as isolated. It just needs to have good acoustics in the room with as few peaks as possible right? I should be able to handle that with bass traps and acoustical treatments yes? The only problem is I only have dimensions of 8 feet wide by 24 feet long with ten foot ceilings to build the entire studio. I understand that this isn't very much space at all for either a live room or a control room by themselves but I'm committed to making this work. If anybody has any suggestions on how to use this space...like how big the live room should be in comparison to the CR with the space provided. Now I would be happy to just have a live room big enough to do one instrument at a time for tracking...I guess then it would just have to be big enough to track a drum set. But I would also really like to be able to record a band live in there, or just have friends over and jam. So how small do you think the control room could be and still be comfortable to hang out/ work in? Thanks a lot. Any and all help is appreciated.
Mike - your limiting factor is the 8' dimension which is too short for a control room across the room so the control room has to follow the 24' dimension. Check out the stickey - "basement studio in 3D" - download the sketchup viewer and check that layout. You link the two rooms with a pair of double doors between the speakers. cheers john
Ok...so I'm only a little bit confused now. How do I make the control room follow the 24' dimension and still have a big enough live room to jam in? And where is this 3d studio thing? Do you have the URL for it? Or a link. Thanks a lot.
Alright well I haven't been able to open up the link...for some reason its not working. Could you just tell me what you think would be a good idea for designing this thing? Thanks Very much. Why is 8 feet not wide enough for the control room? I laid it out on the ground and looked at it...it would be small...but I think it would be usable. Let me know what you think. Thanks again. Mike
