First off, thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide. I have just moved out to LA from NY, and am setting up a studio in my home for recording and producing music primarily for commercials, but also for some records and film projects as well. I am having alot of problems with the sound in here. Recording is alright, but could be tighter, but the main problem is that there is no detail to the sound for mixing. The bass in the room is of course a problem, but that is not it, the bigger issue is the lack of detail. I am using Mackie 624s, but I am more than willing to upgrade, but don't want to waste money on monitors that would be better spent on the room. Also if anyone knows of a good acoustician out here that could take a look at the room I would appreciate the referral. Here is a diagram of the space. Any suggestions?

I'd start by moving that diffusor out and put as many insulation panels as you can afford on that wall.
What's on the ceiling above the console?
cheers

Yeah, that seems to be the best suggestion I have gotten. I am thinking about Auralex 3" foam wedges, but everyone around the boards seems to think the MiniTraps are far superior to any other solutions. Any thought?
Above the console, though back just a bit, are more MetroFusor Diffusion panels as shown in the diagram.
I think the main thing I need to do is to hire an acoustician to check it out and make some suggestions, but I don't know where to look to find a good Acoustician. Any suggestions on this? I am in the LA area by the way.
your room is too small for diffusion - remove the ceiling diffusion and replace it with insulation.
You've got all the components in your existing room you just need to utilise them better.
