Hello all,
I am new to posting here but I have been reserching studio treatments for the past several years. Finally the powers that be have smiled upon me and the rennovation/constrcution phase has begun on our home. The shell of the studio is up and the last reaming questions rely on acoustical treatments. I am including a plan view of the studio layout and a wall section view.
The same room (40' X 22') is going to be used for tracking and mixing since I will be recording myself with various groups of musicians. The ceiling above is exposed 2 by 10 floor joists (insulation has been removed). The bottom of the floor joists are 9 feet above the concrete slab. THe mix side of the room will be a floated floor on 2 by 8's and the tracking side of the room will be floated on 2 by 2's (just enough to keep the cables out of site.
I am proposing building broadband and slat absorbers inside the existing 2 by 4 frame on the tracking side of the room and installing bass traps at the interface between the walls and the ceiling. I am also going to "deaden" the wall behind the mixer as much as possible.
The questions I have is:
1) If the entire area between the columns on the tracking side of the room is treated with alternating broadband and slat abosorbers, is this giong to deaden the room too much for a good response.
2) Can the cosmetic fireplace in the lower right corner make an effective bass trap if it were sealed on all sides.
3) What are some recommendations for treating the ceiling between the floor joists
Any other comments and recommendatoins are cheerfully accepted.
Thanks,
Kurt
