Hello all,
After much reading, I´m trying to figure out how to close this design.
I´d appreciate any help you guys can give me.
I have this up, this is what I have tried for a while in the paper, but I´m not sure how to read all this data and implement this in my room...

thanks a lot!

Please help me with my mixroom!!

Fabio - I'd do something like this - its a soffit mounted speaker syatem that improves your bass response as well as breaking up the parallel walled box you have now - it also adds a reflection free zone across the front with the added slot resonators. Behind you I've placed insulation with heavy deeper treatement across the rear wall. This stops early reflections coming back at you from behind which is also a no no. I'd also place an angled cloud over the mix area.

Hello John, thanks a lot for checking this out!!!
I like a lot your suggestion, just a couple doubts remain, if you don't mind.
1) How to calculate the absorbing frequences for the slot resonators? Math? Measurements in the room?
2) If I change my monitors, like I'll do, to this ones bellow, will the sofit mount still work if I close the speaker cabinet hole ?

Fabio - you need to calculate the slots to absorb the frequencies where the isulation starts to roll off - 150hz - 4-500hz i.e. the low mids.
Those speakers should soffit mount OK IMO

Thanks so much John,
it's nice to have some light on the confusion I had in my head for a while. I'm reading The Master Handbook of Acosutics now to learn a little bit more, but I think I'd start downstairs with the electric stuff and preparing the walls... do you think this is a good book?
One last question for now :
Do you think a light or heavy drapery hanged right in front of where the couch is could ruin this plan you had proposed in any way?
cheers!
Fabio
I assume you are saying hanging a curtain over the insulation instead of cloth?? yup - that would work.

Great, thanks again!
Seaching the form for soffit designs, will go for you plan!

Well, back after more than a year out :(
I got involved on gear building and had to leave my room aside.
Plan didnt change a lot, but the available space did.
Now I have a 3.15m x 2.45m room just for the control room (around 10.5 x 8). Thinking about to use the bigger side to the soffit mount and a rack of gear behind me, basstrap on the back sides. Side walls will be a inner wall done with very old and big bricks, then proper treatment after that.
Still confused about some stuff...
Will try to post a skecth soon.
many cheers!

Shame on you Fabio :D Leave that solder iron and start with some real building
You know what Moby... I see some very good studios being built here, thats very motivating... just a matter of time now :? Or lack of time...
BTW this room I have now is very small for the kind of low end I like and need, but that is what I got, cant help it, cant make it bigger either.
On the other hand I plan to use it as a lesson-learned for a bigger room I will build in a 50 meter square area, by the end of 2007, just for mixing.
Still so many questions in my head.
cheers!

Yes, this is the great forum. :D I finished my studio following the suggestions and plans from John and Steve. Unfortunately can't be done fast. I was building around four months, and still have to fine tune, do some adds ...
BTW, I don't think that small mix room can be problem for low end. That's some audiofool theory running around. 50m2 mix room is better of course, but have the problems as every other room. Often the height is more critical. Only problem is that treatment is limited to just broadband, no space and effectiveness from diffusors and big bass traps. I think that small recording room can be the problem if you want to do some pure sound or maybe for drums.
I'm not acoustics expert, this is just my 5c from 25 years experience in recording business.
About Helmholtz resonators check the corrected formula posted as sticky here
