Well, I seem to have put this in the wrong forum the first time. Hope it helps that I moved it here :D I'm new here and pretty new to any serious recording. I have done some recording on my computer but gave no consideration to room setup. I just did it right where the computer happened to be sitting(with predictable results  ). Now I've picked up a TASCAM 2488 and want to set a room up for a little better sound. If the room was standard I'd just use what I've already read here but it's not. Angled ceiling, nooks, crannies, and closets are confusing me. I hope the non-standard(not sqaure) dimensions are a plus but I don't know? Do I set up my workstation facing the left end of the room with a flat wall behind my monitors? One or the other of the walls that have angled portions(angle starts at 4'3" off the floor)? Help! OK, this is the space I have to work with. All tracking and mixing will be done in this room. I won't be making any changes to the layout of the room itself constructioin wise. The house I'm in is a Cape Cod that was built about 50 years ago. The walls are 2x4 covered with 5/8" gypsum board. I don't want to change that. It's an upstairs bedroom with 1 dormer window and angled walls that follow the roof line. I'm looking for help on acoustic treatments and workstation placement. The angled parts of the ceiling are about 40 degrees. The floor is hardwood with carpet w/padding covering about 2/3 of the area. I've included a top and side view of the room. I may use the closet for some amp isolation as well as vocal area although I'm not planning an isolation booth situation. Too tight an area for my tatste(haha I'm a little clostrophobic) This is not a pro studio just an area for me to work on my own stuff as well as improve my recording skills. I will probably record some of my sons friends bands and they have drums so consideration will need to be given for drum setup area. Measurments corrected with new pictures. All measuremnets are now accurate(I think  ). What's your take on the situation? Thanks in advance!

So this room is a lost cause? Should I just forget it? Hmmm......I remember taking a shower this morning......brushed my teeth.......applied deoderant. Oh well
OK, 2 days without a peep. Have I done something wrong? Posted in the wrong forum? Not made a donation? Being a newbie and unfamiliar with studio design and the materials used for acoustic treatment I can't really offer advice or help to others yet. I only know what I've read here over the past few months. I've searched and found nothing similar to my room configuration. I realize that I've limited what can be done by resisting any changes requiring destruction/construction. Is there a problem with my "netiquette"? Is my room especailly troublesome? A cloud over my workstation is easy but where is the best position for that workstation with these wall angles? I'm handy with tools. I can build DIY Basstraps but how many and where would be best? Should I keep the carpet are go hardwood floor? I'm close to finishing the room and can start moving in within the week. HELP!!!!!!!

well you haven't learnt much have you. You come with a bare room and demand someone design it for you - have you taken absolutely nothing in from this site - there are heaps of rooms similar to yours on this site. I'm amazed you call yourself Buddha! Cheers john

Well, to begin with I didn't aquire my nickname due to my large brain but my large belly  Don't have quite as big a belly anymore but thought the name was funny so I kept it. Sorry if my frantic excitement over finally being able to move from my cramped bedroom(yes I am part of that rather large club) into a somewhat open space came across as it seems to have. I guess I always hope my sig line will prevent misunderstandings. I do thank you for the "design" it will be very helpful. If the only concern I had with this room was how to treat a square room I would have few questions because there are heaps of them. I probably didn't stress enough that the angled ceilings are what is throwing me. Yes. I'm easily confused. I think I have seen one room(studio) with angled walls like that during the last couple months and I don't seem to be able to find it now(nope didn't bookmark it). If there are others on this site I haven't found them through a search or seen one while just browsing. Was it here that I saw it? :? Again, I apologize if I seemed to be demanding that someone design my home studio for me. I was actually looking for general ideas because I have a somewhat odd room. Regards, Greg
