I have a new home with a rather large basement. The usuable area for a studio (control room and live) is 20 FT X 20Ft. The ceiling is rather low. Only 6 and 1/2 feet from floor to studs. Digging down 4 feet will cost about 15 thousand. Is it worth it?

Without knowing your averall budget, if you are seroius about it, yes it is worth it. In addition to headroom, it gives space for acoustic treatment.
