Hi everyone!
This is a room I was offered.
It´s 14,6' x 11,8' with 10,8' ceiling.
The problems are obviously the windows and the door.
The wall which is without any window or door verges (right word?) on another room with noisy neighbours.
Verging to the wall with the door is another small room with ca. 14,6' x 4' which could be used as vocal booth.
The main restriction (right word?) is that I didn´t want to make splayed walls but to use acoustic elements or maybe movable gobos ... although the ceiling may be too high to build gobos that cover all the wall (height).
Now my first thought was to use the room "lengthways", but on one side there is this very unsymmetrical window and on the other side there are neighbours.
Then there is that one window on the right side & I think it will reflect sound to the listening position.
If I "spin" the room 90 degrees, I would have a more symmetrical front and the reflections from the window on the left would be out of the listening position.
But the rear wall would may be be too near to the listening position.
What do you think?
Another thing is: I can´t spend more than 1000 EUR, which is ca. 1300 USD.
I wanted to get me some primacoustic elements "pyramid-foam" and maybe mount it on thin wood so I can hang it instead of glueing it on the walls/ceiling.
If you think this room really can´t be handled without splaying, I will have a second thought on it - but I tried to figure out WHERE it could be splayed and none of the possibilities looked very good to me.
On one design I lost all of the windows, on the other the door was gone, in the third the window is in the back of the room ...
Maybe you have an idea I didn´t think of or couldn´t imagine?
Thanks very much!
Any suggestions about this room?

PS: The "listening-triangle" has a base of 6,5'
Hi mate - yes I think sideways is the way to go because of the windows
here's a drawing of how you could do it - the rear wall would lean forward from the base so its maybe .5m off the wall at the top.

Hi John!
Thanks very much for your layout!
I was sceptical (right word?) about splaying the walls, because the room would even be smaller than it is anyway. But if you think this is the way to go, then it´s allright with me!
I can only hope I can do all of that stuff, because so far I´m not a good DIYer at all.
I´ll search through the forum to get the right plans for slot resonators, etc.
There are two more points I think about:
I contacted the manufacturers of the desired speakers (PSI Audio or Klein & Hummel) if they see a problem to soffit mount the active speakers.
I´ll have to wait for an answer, before I can continue with this thought...
Another thing is the clouds I would have used on the ceiling.
Do you think it makes a big difference in
a) splaying the ceiling (which I´d like to avoid)
or b) use four of these: http://www.primacoustic.com/cloud9.htm hanging from the ceiling - angeld above the listening-area.
It would be a total area of 7,8' (left to right) x 3,3' (front to rear)
Thanks so much again!
Michael
Oh, and I forgot another important point:
Do you think my above mentioned budget will cover the costs of the material in your layout?
Michael - in this forum I've posted a 3D version of a small studio - download the viewer and check it out - it shows how to build the soffits and the slots.
yes - you will need a cloud over the console area.
cheers

Hey John!
That 3D-Stuff is great!
I´ve got a question about your layout above:
Why are the sidewall-slot-resonators angled at ca. 30°?
I thought splayed walls should be angled ca. 6° each.
... or is it only because it is a resonator and needs more space to work than 6° would give it?
And what about the budget?
Do you think it will cover the costs?
Thanx a lot!
Michael
that's the minimum angle. as for the cost - it's up to you as to what you can get your materials for and whether you can build it yourself or pay out for a carpenter. cheers JohnI thought splayed walls should be angled ca. 6° each
