Hey everyone, I have been working with my cousin to come up with a studio design we could fit inside what used to be an italian restaurant. The grey perimeter is a concrete fire wall (convieniently filled with sand to drowned out kitchen noise), we are building the studio inside the kitchen. We are planning on floating all the rooms and there is at least a foot and a half between every wall. I am just looking for some critiques on the design, any help will be greatly apprieciated. I took the control room from a recent post I saw up on the forum. Thanks everybody for the help! RIB

Hi RIB - so which set of doors are your main entrance? and what do you intend that long section at the bottom will be? The building is 50' x 31'? cheers john
John, The building is some 60x56, it used to be a little cafe. We are using the kitchen area for the studio the dining room is being converted into two offices and a reception area. The long area at the bottom is a pre-existing hall with an area for chairs (I think I'll use it to store some equipment). The doors at the bottom left will be used to access the studio area from the offices and reception area, while the upper right door has direct access to a loading bay. I really wanted a door to the control room without passing through the studio but I just haven't figured it out. I am tossing around the idea of getting a door put in the buildings outer wall into the work room. I hope that cleared things up for you, and John, is it acceptable to put non rigid insullation in the walls, as long as it is up to spec?? Thanks a lot for the advice, Steve and yourself are doing a bang up job. RIB
If thats the case I'd flip the control room so you enter the rear of the control room from the area by the left doorway. That puts your studios on the up side adjacent to the loading bay and a window across the front of the control room would give visual to the studio. cheers john
John, Sorry to be dense, but did you mean that I should flip the control room upside down and leave everything else?
Well I meant - turn the control room upside down and work from there :) BTW - that's an old design as the 5:1 is the old version - the new version has the rear at 135 degrees. cheers john
John, thanks for all the help!! Is there an easy way to incorporate the 135 degree angle into the design or is that not practical RIB
Not really as the front is different also. Each speaker should have a baffle of the same size. Each speaker should be the same distance from the sweeet spot. The two stereo speakers should be at 30 degrees creating a 60 degree angle at the sweet spot. Like this. cheers john

John Hey, I've been drawing all day and finally think I got a reasonable likeness to the angles you gave me. So, do you think it looks right? I haven't tried to put the doors or windows in place, so any tips would be great. I think I am going to use the lenght of wall above the L and R soffits as slot resonators and place the door and windows above that. Thanks for all the advice!! RIB
