Hi all, After dloading Smartdraw, I've come up with a basic design based on my existing room which is built in my attached garage. The traps and splayed walls marked with red lines are based on info from the forum posts and John's layouts. The main monitors are 3-way JBL's with 12" driver for soffit mounting, and nearfields are NS-10M Studio. The door at the back of the room prevents a corner trap, so I've guessed at a solution being one corner and back wall trap combination. Appreciate any feedback. thanx in advance, Al

That looks fine AL - I'd angle the right wall in the studio to break up the parallel walls and maybe add a door into the studio for gear loading? cheers john
Thanks John, I really appreciate you having a look. Gee, never thought of a door for the studio part!! Thanks for that. Wouldn't want to be knocking over something 'spensive with a cymbal stand. The problem with the right booth wall is the 6 foot window to the outside. Maybe I can angle the left wall and use the space behind for storage...another thing I forgot to factor in. The rear CR trap was taken from one of your designs but I don't know how it's constructed. When you can, could you let me know? I need to tame the low freq's back there from those JBL's. Al :D
I meant angle the right wall over to the right of the window instead of doing a dogleg like you've drawn. Can you shift the control room entrance door 3 feet to the right?? cheers john
Hi John, The right studio wall can be altered to avoid the garage door track but I'd lose a little space. I built the existing CR out of desparation and budget. At some time, I'd love to gut the whole space, wall up the garage door and start over. But, for now I have to work with what I have. To illustrate the problems, I've attached some pictures showing the garage door problem as well as the CR door problem. And a rework of the Smartdraw plan. appreciate your help Al

Thanks John, Yeah, I had a feeling that's what you meant. :) Angling the studio wall is not a problem. It's the CR door I was hoping not to have to move. It's doable if I move the electrics (ie the light switch and the wall plug below it.) Question is - Would it make a big difference leaving it as is and not having a corner trap there? As I mentioned, I saw a plan you did for another studio that was similar to my drawing. When I can afford it, I want to redo the studio similar to the garage plan on the SAE site where the control room is set up in the corner. Til then, I'd like to try and work with what I have. I defer to your expertise and donation is forthcoming. Much appreciated. cheers, Al
Sure - you can avoid moving the door - just make sure the rest of the rear wall is heavily treated - you can always move the door later if it's not enough ;) cheers John
