I don't know much about room design, but I have been tinkering around trying to figure out how to get the best division out of a 24 foot by 32 foot building. I can't seem to figure out anything that feels comfortable. I'd like to have a control room live room, drum room, vocal booth, and a booth for guitar amps and other loud things like that. I'm okay with combining a drum room with the live room. I have a concrete floor/slab (not 100% level, would like to put wood over it) and a 9' ceiling to play with. It'd also be nice if I could have a consulting space at the front (24 foot) so people would also be comfortable talking business. There are two 6 foot high by 8 foot wide windows on either side of the 3 foot door situated in the center of the front 24 foot wall. The current walls (only outer) are 1 foot concrete block. My sound situation is between the county jail and a dry cleaner's, so I have to be able to keep the levels heard outside pretty darn close to nothing. I'm planning on having two 4-tracks, one 24-track, a few racks, an 8 foot couch, and an MX9000 console in the control room. I don't have much money to do this with and this building is basically a freebie from my father (he refinishes bathtubs in a metal building at the back). If anyone can be of any help, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm hoping to be able to track local bands here since the nearest studio outside of a bedroom and a boss multitrack and a couple of Nady mics is over 100 miles away.
Best Room Division (24 foot by 32 foot)

Greetings and welcome to the site.
Post a diagram w/ measurements to the existing building structure. Show doors, existing walls, wall material (block), posts in the room, etc.
Then we can help from there.
And if you haven't done so yet, look through the design forum. There are several designs that should be similar or close to your dimensions.
:D
Okay, I'm not good at all with any design software, so I'll try and explain this picture as best I can.
The outer walls are cinder block. The only existing walls (2x4, sheetrock) are around the bathroom and "lounge". The bathroom must remain in its place but any walls can be moved/removed/built as needed. Also, where the isolation booth is, the wall between the corridor and bathroom/lounge actually continues. I have no problem knocking that out as you can probably tell. The central heat/air is actually on a 3'x3' 2x4 mount. Any interior walls that were not mentioned above but are in the picture do not actually exist.
I know longer have the need for the corridor, so that is actually taking up space in the drawing. The doors at the top and bottom of the drawing must remain. As you can tell, I am really hoping to be able to fit an office-type of room and a lounge area in with all of this. Right now, a suspended fiberglass ceiling hangs down about 1' throughout the room. I'd like to be able to put an 8' couch in the control room to make it a lot more comfortable if that is possible.
Measurements: top to bottom = 32', left to right = 24', area with door at top (left to right) 16' (top to bottom) 2', bathroom is 3'x9'.
Thanks for your help!
