Hello All, I am putting together a small project studio in an existing apartment that has served us well as a practice room in years past. Anyway - to the chase. In the enclosed drawing I have tried to put something resembling the SAE model together in the space available to me, and within other constraints imposed by the owner (what can I say, He's a drummer :P ). Can I get some comments on the treatment choices here? I intend to make the 6 degree walls long slot resonators, and the back walls a bass trap. Can anyone suggest an effective BT method for the pathetic amount of space available. I considered panel traps, but question whether or not these would reflect too much of the mids and highs back to the mix position. I dont know if there is enough space to get large enough hangers in there to be effective. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Dave

Dave - you've done well. I only have one suggestion and it concerns your right wall. I wouldn't use a staggered stud, I'd build an inside/out wall - i.e. you build it first and add the drywall to the outer side - the studio side. Then build another wall for the studio isolation but drywall it normally. You can then use the cavity of that inner wall in the control room as the resonator cavity for the slots. The cavity behind your left slot is the whole area to the side wall? Hope this helps - let me know if I need to draw it for you :) cheers john
John, I think I see what you are getting at. Eliminate the 2x8 plates and go for airgap instead? Ive revised the drawing. The space to the left of the slot is as yet unthought out. I'm not real clear as to sizing, orientation and spacing of hangers, but it seems to me that there, and the back wall could be good candidates. Do these spaces look to be large enough to be effective for that? Again, thanks for the quick response. I have learned quite a bit in these forums, and am very grateful for the help. Dave

yes - but you will need two doors - one for each wall frame. cheers john
That is do-able. I originally had this space slated for a floated drum booth before homeowner limitations and financial reality set in :D. Any suggestions on the space behind the left wall and methods for the basstraps (panels? hangers?). Dave
