This is a strange kind of basstrap, on java jive studios. this is the link: http://www.javajivestudio.com this is what the engeneer says about this kind of basstrap: " What’s up will all the books? There are two answers – the first is that bookshelves, especially when the books are placed at varying depths in the shelves, make wonderful diffusers, and are therefore an excellent acoustic treatment for the tracking room and iso booth. The second reason is that Dave was tired of keeping all of these books in storage, and wanted his entire library to be immediately accessible. There are between two and three thousand volumes in the library, and yes, he has read them all."

well what he says is correct - book shelves do act as diffusors and those heavy pages will absorb bass :) cheers john
excellent. .. . I have a full-height bookshelf planned for my tracking room, and was thinking about sectioning off various portions of it to build in slat resonators, but if the books themselves absorb a decent amount of bass, I might be able to get by with more books and less resonators. -'Chung
I have about 700+ 33 1/3 LPs ... do you guys think I could do the same ? Except the LPs are thin ....... Any thought?
Sorry to dig up this rather oldish post, but what if you put some 703/rockwool behind the book/record-shelves... It'll make for a nice diffuser and bass trap... Herwig
