hi, back in October John made us some drafts.. and we went with one.. turned it into a more serious CAD design and here what came out..

we started construction as well (knightfly is helping around that).. and here is how we got so far..

as the construction went up i started having doubts that the ideas we want to implement will be good and right.. so read this please and give me some tips.. and aprrooval.. i have no one here at home to consult with… (those are not construction questions but design and acoustic ones) WALL AROUND CR wall around control room will be as shown on the cad draw (double wall, with 2 layers of gypsum boards - figured it out with knightfly already).. Question: Should I make it go all the way from the floor to the ceiling of the existing structure or just to the splayed joists.

The problem is if it just goes to the splayed joists, and I use poor isolation on the ceiling (joists).. won’t the sound be transmitted trough the ceiling from one room to the other?? LIVE ROOM DESIGN (where the piano is, in the CAD drawing) I like the wood stuff like in the following picture.

At least just floor and ceiling.. if I make the ceiling like this.. how should I deal with isolation on top.. what layers should I use? and how does this ceiling affect the acoustics in the room?

Other question is.. the walls to the outside I would do like on the following picture..

you can see the big stud In the wall (on the left of the pic) I have the same studs.

. and a little bis smaller windows..) should I put rock wool inside and cover it with a cloth? One other idea for the ceiling was.. put a gypsum board 15mm on top.. in between rock wool slabs in garbage bags (so the rock wool doesn’t come in to the room) and then cover it with a cloth from the bottom side) What should I do? How should I design my live room that it is nice and good acoustics? maybe you can comment how you would do each wall in the room (except the left wall because it is already 2 layers of gypsum boards for isolation :)) I need help with where to put absorbers, bass traps, slat resonator walls etc etc.. :) please answer soon because i want to continue with the work :) and i need concrete answers :) don't comment on my ideas.. :) say if they are ok.. and add what should be added :) or if i should go in a different direction :) I appreciate your help!

It's hard following your construction technique - what country are you in?? As I understand it you have a double wall for the control room. Normally the outer wall goes fully up to the existing ceiling whilst the inner wall follows the line of the control room with it's angled ceiling. With your studio it appears you are building a room with in your existing room - to get windows like in the picture you will need to add an internal window the same size as your existing windows but THEY DO NOT JOIN. Each window frame is in it's own wall structure. As for the isolation through the ceilings they are the same as your walls - separate frames with a drywall layer separating each room. hope this helps - as i said - your design is a little confusing in it's construction method - you don't appear to have any baseplates in your wall structure? cheers john
About the confusion. We wanted to make the the heavy construction for the joists and the ceeling.. so this what you see on the pics is that heavy constructions.. ..now we go on the light wall framing.. i will put baseplates.. and everything.. more about it in the construction forum.. http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2798 my granpa is helping me.. he was a carpenter way back in the 1950ties.. before he became a doctor! combine this with his oldnes.. you have to be very diplomatic to make him do it your way :) hehe I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DESIGN MY WALLS; NOT THE LAYOUT BUT THE DESIGN (slat resonator wall, or gypsum, or wood wall or just a cloth.. where absorbers, where bastraps etc) MY CEELING IDEA FOR THE LIVE ROOM.. (we wont go with the one like on the picture earlier bacuse the wood we used is raw and i would take up a lot work to make it look good, plus i thin i will have a better isolation) on top of the joists i will put gypsum boards, in between i will put rockwool.. density 40kg/m3 and under the joists i will put a wooden finish.. or should i combine... wood and clooth.. like a big slat resonator ceeling???? i want the rooms the have the wooden feeling :).. i will go over them with a transparent red wood primer.. (i don't know how you call that.. it turns a little bit red but still stays wood :) here is the progress... today we put up the joints.....

the black chair is in the exact position where the "captains chair" will be :) ..now i am going to frame the rooms.. according to the CAD drawing.. ..if you think that something is not good.. please say it.. ..the studs will go from the floor to the existing concrete ceeling.. i would like to make my CR as the one in Guruland.. but i couldn't recognize what he put on the side walls.. and how he did the soffit mount and if the side walls are slat resonators?.. or something else?.. and what are his layers on the ceeling? if somebody could help me with that.. would be great! :)
