Hi all-
I've been reading through the many posts here and checking out the amazing studios people have been building out. It seems to me that many that I see are for the traditional arrangement of an engineer in the control room recording a musician in a live room.
I'm curious if there have been a lot of designs on the site that were more geared towards someone who's recording themself?
I'm hoping to buy a home soon and while considering basements I want to get an idea of how the studio might be laid out for this kind of arrangement.
Do I build a particularly "live" control room that also allows for tracking? Do I setup a lot of remote control surfaces that keep me tied into my Logic setup in the control room while working out of a proper "live" room?
Ideally I'd love to have the control of a live room and a proper control room for isolation and mixing purposes and the like, but I'm unsure how to build with this goal in mind. If anyone has any studio examples for me to take a gander at that are geared to this kind of usage I'd be most appreciative if you could point me to them.
I will be able to build this from the ground up (within the confines of a pre-existant basement), so there will be a fair amount of options available to me from the get-go...
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Want to build a studio shortly, but I mostly record myself

hi,
i'm planning to do the the same, i want to be able to record myself from the booth. it's no problem to put a daw remote there. there are remote solutions via CAT5 available, if the booth is close to the daw you don't need that. take a monitor/mouse/keyboard splitter to controll 2 computers with. thats all.
next point: you want a controllroom as quiet as possible:
-computers in an extra machineroom or ventilated box.
-ability to turn off ventilation system for very sensitive sessions.
etc.....
i'm sure you want to record yourself in the CR too!
below you see a pic from cavell studio with integrated DAW-Remote.
Thanks for the tips.
I've thought about sticking an extra Logic Control surface into the tracking room, perhaps something not even that complicated. I'm hoping to find see some more pics like the one you posted that give me more good ideas on how to possibly proceed.
Thanks much for the feedback.
why a logic controll in the tracking room. you don't want to mix there?!?
:? :D
Correct, I don't want to mix there, but the advantage of a LC would be the ability to arm tracks and the like without the use of a mouse... Just a thought. I guess it all depends on how fluidly I can get in and out of the control room to do playback and the like.
ok, i think i have your answer. Have a look at this http://www.frontierdesign.com/products/tranzmain.html is it what your after?
that's a great tool! :D
OMG.. that's only $199??
I owe you a cookie. That's perfect. I'd keep one in every room just to make it easy:)
Great tool.
I looked at a house today with a great unfinished basement with a perfect place for 2 live rooms (1 smaller, 1 bigger) and a modest control room.
Thanks for the assistance guys.
