Hi again Folks
Thanks to John for his comments in my other thread.
Thought i would start a new one, as i think im done and would like some fresh opinons.
Please take a look and let me know if its bad, or if something missing, or if i could do something better (as long as its the same or less expensive)
Thanks!!
Studio Design - Is this complete, or am i missing something

In the mixing room, you may want to build a slot resonator along the 'straight' of portion of the back wall, to even out the symmetry.
You mean something like this:
Would i need some type of small bass trap in the back wall corners ofthe control room?
Something like LENRDs?
Thanks.
More along these lines. The idea is for the control room to be symmetrical, but without parallel walls.
Also, it may not be a good idea for those to be slot resonators. Panels that'll absorb broad band frequencies would work better, I think.
I'm just repeating what I've learned on this forum, so keep reading. :-)
yeah - that's a far better resolution adding the angled wall. Keep that rear wall dead to the high end. The slots on the rear would not be a good idea IMO
cheers
john
Oki think im gettng closer - Thanks again to you John and jatougas.
So below is another iteration.
I hope i have most everything worked out as far as trapping bass and Mid and HF's, and slot resonators up the front of the rooms. If i dont i would appreciate any and all learned answers.
Also im wondering what i might do for Ceiling tratment. The ceiling is about 7' high.
Thanks.

You might want to angle the right side of the back right trap a smidgen to make sure both halves of that wall come in at the same angle (I should have added that in my earlier drawing).
Also, how thick are you going to make that wall dividing the two rooms?
peegee - a ceiling height of 7' is best treated totally with 703 to wipe it out completely.
BTW a ceiling that low is also better if you cover it with a dark color (black) - it makes it appear higher than it really is.
cheers
John
Ok, black it is - on that note, I was going to post the question about colors and sounds. I had heard that sounds react differently to different colors, and im assuming from your advice this is true. Any chance of some details on that?
Also - Would i need to paint the walls a different color?
And i am planning on putting laminate flooring down but wonder if a lighter maple/poplar finish would be the way to go, or something with a darker color like a mahogany finish?
Thanks again
No, it's purely a psychosomatic perception of space that a dark surface appears further away than it is. John's suggesting putting 703 on the ceiling, then covering it in a dark fabric so that the fibers from the 703 don't float free and get in your lungs and other vital equipment. :-)I had heard that sounds react differently to different colors, and im assuming from your advice this is true.
That'd be up to you. All black walls and ceiling would end up making the space feel claustrophobic. Light colored walls would enhance the illusion of the dark ceiling being further away than it actually is.Also - Would i need to paint the walls a different color?
Once again, that'd be up to you. While you *can* hear the difference between a maple acoustic guitar, a mahogany acoustic guitar, and a rosewood acoustic guitar, there's little research to substantiate that the reflections coming from laminate floorings differentiate much from each other, much less from concrete slab. And i am planning on putting laminate flooring down but wonder if a lighter maple/poplar finish would be the way to go, or something with a darker color like a mahogany finish?
So should they be slots up the front of the two rooms?
Thanks
- Pete
anyone?
yes they should be slots - maybe also in the bottom rear corner of the control room - Im assuming you are adding the HF Minitrap.
cheers
john
Thanks John - The framing is almost done now.
Next is electrical, then i have to get my hands on some rockwool and oc703 in boston.
We'll see how easy that is :-)
