Anyone had any experience with the ductless "mini-split" HVAC systems, specifically with noise levels? We are upgrading our tracking building (separated from control room) and need a stronger AC... Also, John and others have posted good plans for isolating AC noise from window units...but how does exhaust/exhange ocur in these MDF ducted systems? (Great site, BTW...!)
Saw that...that's what prompted the question about the air return in both the mini split and regular ol' room AC... I really have to wonder how they overcame these issues before the advent of refrigerated air...
I noticed you got a little more info on the mini splits over at RO (I'm one of the mods there also) - as far as the "before" question, I would guess they either used lots of fans, closed up and recorded, repeat as necessary. AC and multi-tracking are of a similar age, so it would have gone quicker with one take, REAL MUSICIANS, and the motivation of a "cold one" after a good take... Steve
I hear ya, Steve...yesterday had a 'client' in here to do his main vocal tracking stuff to materials already laid down...Cue'd him up, set levels, got his monitor mix JUST right, and when I hit record, he sang the first 2 lines of the song and stopped... Turns out he read somewhere that the ONLY method to track vocals anymore is to comp phrases together... When I advised that each comp piece cost him additional money, he figured out real quick how to song an entire song... But, I digress...thanks for the information...
Amazing what a little motivation can do for learning :=)
