hi There Here is a picture of my room were I mix different projects. No recording done here... I have NO treatment in my room and I have a hard time geting a good sound / good mixes. I am also upgrading my monitor system. Right now I use EVEN 20/20bas. I know, I know, not the best ones... FYI I am getting the Adams P22... My question would be.. How would you set up my desk and monitors ? and what would you do for acustic treatment and were would you put it ???? Feel free to say anything. What should I get rid of (sofa) or should I keep it and place it some were good?? I also wanted to put the computer in another room... So it would be good to have the Desk some what near a wall.. Thank you soooo much for your time and help !!! PS. The grey areas (dubble lines) on the walls are windows...
Bump ??
First, just a comment on your monitors. The 20/20 bas are very decent monitors. Without a proper setup, bass trapping and reflection control you may not hear a huge jump in articulation...and portable mixes with more expensive speakers. I did about 12 full CDs and over 150 other projects on the Events and they didn't hold me back one bit, rather my room and bass perception were bigger fish to fry..Just me though. I like new gear too! Any way to set up with the long part of your room behind you? Looks like you'd have an over 25' round trip from your head to the back wall. Good for keeping the refections clouding up your ability to hear better. I see a window. That's ok. A drawable curtain could work there. Light and air are good. Seems like a perscription of room treatment might fix you up quite well. You need some bass traps across the wall to ceiling junctions and behind your monitors hung across the corners.Front and back walls. Then some absortion at the side walls where the first reflections off your speakers hits your head. This means the ceiling and walls around where you sit. Something is also needed to send the early reflections away from your mix position. These two things can be handled by the same kind of unit. Resist the temptation of putting up a bunch of foam all over your room. Additionally, If you have carpet you'll end up with a room with all the high-end sucked out and the bass side will drive you nuts. You may put up the foam and the room sound "nice" when you speak or clap your hands. There is much more to proper balance. I love the Realtraps. Realtraps.com has a bunch of info there. You can make your own traps and difusion panels from information here...do a search. have fun! read before spending...
Hi Thanks for your reply !! You are right... So far I have done good things with my EVENTS, It´s since I got this roome were I started to feel something was not right... I think I´ll wait with the new Monitors and spend some more on good treatment for my room... Sorry, but my first language is not english so sometimes it´s hard for me to underestand.. You mean, that the best thing to do would be to put the desk with monitors on the short right wall ??? ? I do have a small carpet in the room and I have nothing against treating the ceiling... Would it make sense to try to have the desk maybe 2" away from a wall and have the Events on monitor stands. (so the speakers comes maybe 1.5" away from the wall ??? Would it be possible if you (someone ales aswell !) could just do me a small picture were to put all the traps and absorbers ? I am a very visual guy (even more when I don´t speak my mother language).. Or show me were I could find pictures which are sort of the same as mine ? Thank you very much !
