Hello all!
Thank you so much for such an informative forum! Here are my proposed plans for my basement recording studio. Space is really tight, and the main compromise I had to make was walking through the tracking room to get to the control room, BUT I am OK with that as long as the sonics work better this way. :D
The walls are a combination of slot resonators, bass traps, cylindrical diffusors and broadband absorbers. Most are labelled as such.
The main obstacles are the stairs (which cannot be relocated) and the furnace/chimmney which require 30" of clearance for service. As shown I am using the stairwell void as an isolation chamber and the utility area as a sound lock between tracking and control.
I used the wall bounce calculator, the room mode calculator adn the helmholtz calculator to optimize the design. Thank-you for the great tools! I also incorporated some ideas from F. Alton Everest's book, such as one of his 'ideal' control room ratios. Wall splaying is typically 6 or 12 degrees.
Thanks in advance for your opinions. I have been working on this for a long time and I would love to know how I could improve it further.
Thanks,
daniel
